We here at Sad Times are trying to get it together. So we’re combo posting today about all three of this week’s artists for Sad Times 17!

started as a 4 man pop punk band in Columbia, Missouri in 2019. After releasing their debut EP, Bread Crumbs, in 2020, the pandemic hit, mostly shutting the band down except for a few outdoor shows here and there. The band eventually broke up, with Nick Villhardt, the songwriter, moving across the country. In late 2022, Nick rediscovered his passion for leaving whatever town he is in and started the pop punk project back up, this time as a solo band. In December of 2023, Nick released his first solo album, Feed the Pigeons, showcasing a new sound for the band. Now Carrier Pigeon looks to expand by playing shows across Oregon with plans to travel between states, so hold onto your socks, Carrier Pigeon’s almost OK music is on its way.

Wesley started out cutting their teeth playing open mics in their home state of Texas almost a decade ago. They have called Portland home since 2018 and have performed at a number of venues in the area. Their music consists of a guitar, dynamic vocals, and southern gothic flair. Songs feature everything from cryptic cryptids to delightful daffodils. Wesley is working on their album, Kaleidoscope, and also performs as a bassist and vocalist for the band Broom Riders. You can keep up to date with them by following .lepidopterum

Nate has been playing in bands including HFT from the local Longview WA punk scene for almost 30 yrs…..In between bands there were a lot of open mic sessions and by early 2010 the solo acoustic project Seventeen Excuses was born. In 2014 the first EP was released and as of 2024 there have been several more releases and many shows played throughout the NW performing with such acts as Broadway Calls, Greg Rekus, Jon Snodgrass, Vic Ruggiero,Seth Anderson and more!Influences from Buck Owens to Bad Religion, Johnny Cash to the Clash and Merle Haggard to Mötley Crüe. Bourbon goes well with listening.

Tonight is the night! Get them tear ducts ready to sq**rt! So excited to get bummed with The Chair Project (aka that dude from ) tonight at our 14th Sad Times Solo Series!

Originally from Cleveland, vocalist Jeffrey “Chairman” Couch has resided in Portland, Oregon since 1999. While Chairman has focused heavily on his more aggressive spaz-rock bands (such as his current band Nasalrod), he also likes to demonstrate a quieter side with the soulful punk introspection of his solo act The Chair Project. TCP allows Chairman to strip things down with virtuosic, crazed vocals and solo bass guitar only. Song topics range from slowly enjoying alone time in a Portland neighborhood (“Hollywood”) to hitting rock bottom in life (“Straight Commission”). Chairman’s vocal stylings go from tender falsetto to belting it out, often within the course of a single song. This unique mixture of naked electric bass lines with unpredictable crooning has made its way to many beloved Portland venues such as Turn Turn Turn and Mississippi Studios. The Chair Project’s recent 7” vinyl record (entitled ‘Subtle Differences’) was produced by the legendary Larry Crane of Tape Op Magazine.

Restock on concealer and age defense moisturizer because you’ll need them to cover up the puff tomorrow morning and remember: we’re here for a sad time not a long time!

TOMORROW! You’re always a day away! Except tomorrow you won’t be anymore! Get stoked to get sad tomorrow! But for today I want to tell you all a little bit about my friend from who is gonna help bum you out tomorrow!!

Dylan Samore is a multi-instrumentalist singer / songwriter and the bassist for Portland, OR melodic punk trio Ninjas With Syringes.

Born and raised in South Florida, Dylan began on piano and drums, switching to guitar and bass after falling down a deep Brian Wilson and baroque pop rabbit hole.

A gigging musician from the age of 12, he’s marinated deeply and primarily in the sultry tones of punk rock. Dylan’s also played in funk bands, Americana outfits, and orchestral settings in school.

When he’s not thumping the bass in Ninjas, he’s simmering a sonic broth of spicy raw men, ladling out a solo acoustic stew.

Dylan’s songs are usually upbeat and acerbic: despair and elation served in a major-key format.

This is gonna be tear burner or whatever! Make sure to get over to early and catch this sweetheart and remember: we’re here for a sad time not a bad time!

SAD TIMES 14 IS THIS WEEK! Can you EVEN?!

Starting out our fine evening of tears and beers this Wednesday we have otherwise known as !

Rum River Cult est. circa 2018, is your friendly neighborhood local cult, with your leader and its original member hailing from east of the Rockies. Sarah Parson of Minnesota is here to recruit you into this bizarre new world of Covid-limbo with reminiscent tones of the 60’s and 70’s and an irreverent flair. With no rules to song format, lyrics both pessimistically whimsical yet heartfelt, the cult implores you to join them for content to come.

Make sure to get there ON TIME so you don’t miss out on this wonderful performance / Cult pitch. And remember: we’re here for a sad time not a bad time! So be cool!

Just a few more days away from our ONE YEAR SADIVERSARY! OMG I’m getting Chills!! I’d like to take this opportunity to introduce our second artist ! He wouldn’t tell me his real name because “we don’t have time for that right now!”

is a Portland-based songwriter whose lyrics will speak to anyone whose mind drifts to dense forests, philosophical quandaries and social dissonance. Or anyone who just loves a good turn of phrase. His catalog would probably be categorized as folk, but the songs sample other genres generously.

Get busy cryin or get busy cryin!
