Here’s 10 pretty solid gold records available from records shops (pick a good one, innit). Idris Ackamoor is 69 and with The Pyramids he’s currently on the peak of his life Afro-jazz with fire and soul, some no bu****it heaviness. Jaga Jazzist make modern prog jazz, which is most definitely to set off a lot of folks ‘wank detectors’ it’s indulgent, studious and for me, satisfying af. Always worth picking up a Sun Ra reissue, Jenny O’s latest is some good indie and in lead single ‘God Knows Why’ she’s made my favourite ever pop song about going half death. I think I like Willie J Healey, he really knows songs but sometimes I dunno if he really knows Willie and I find myself just quite impressed at his ability to do stuff rather than the stuff - make sense? Give it a try. I heard Helvetia and they’re a post-punk/avant garde group that don’t suck (can we slow down on this genre?), pretty fun and some good jams which nod to Television when they did NYC prog. There’s some posthumous Jason Molina tracks too, I have to be honest, he’s on my massive list of ‘sh*t, I’ve gotta get round to checking them for real’ artists, probably not the best place to start. I’ll ask Callum, think he likes him? I think I’ve either bought a Video Age song into the pod before or Callum has, I think they sound like a nice jangly 80s indie pop group, I simply cannot be sure but if they’ve made an appearance on our pod, they simply must be great. Also, The Stooges last gig with their original lineup is available on third man, recorded off the soundboard which can either be mind blowing or a little lifeless, good songs though and you know they woulda slayed live back then. There’s your stinking ten, try to buy and support if you can!
