The Wheeling Nailers, proud ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins, have announced their Season-Ending Roster for the Summer of 2024. The roster consists of 18 players.

Season-Ending Rosters may include up to 20 players, and cannot include any players who did not sign an ECHL contract in 2023-24.

The team will open training camp in October.

Over the last number of years, Ohio County Schools Superintendent, Dr. Kimberly Miller, has served as the treasurer, secretary, and vice president of the WV Association of School Administrators, also known as WVASA.

Through a nomination process, Miller was recently appointed president of the association.

The announcement was made over the weekend but distributed by OCS this morning.

Despite the fundamental importance of voting in a democratic society, many West Virginians, unfortunately, do not exercise their right.

My law enforcement friends tell me what full moons do. There is clear evidence that the moon has a lot to do with tidal action, but I don’t know if there is empirical evidence that shows the same for bad behavior.

Tanisha Bynoe, 36, of Brooklyn, New York, has admitted to uttering counterfeit obligations.

According to court documents, Bynoe was passing counterfeit bills at businesses in Wetzel County.

Bynoe faces up to 20 years in federal prison. A federal district court judge will determine any sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

The Mitchell Plant has received an AEP Caring Together mini-grant to secure a Blessing Box installed at Washington Lands Elementary School in Marshall County in partnership with Marshall County Schools and the Marshall County Family Resource Network.

The Blessing Boxes are filled with non-perishable goods for community members to take as needed.

The Bridgeport Exempted Village School District has taken the first step in a project that will change the face of the district and promises to benefit the lives of thousands in the surrounding communities.

Thanks to funding from a state grant, in the next two and a half years a proposed 28,500-square-foot addition will be erected in front of Bridgeport Elementary School.

The district formed a planning committee that began the application process in February and submitted the proposal on March 28.

The Wheeling Police Department announced several promotions within its command staff and debuted a new fourth patrol district to enhance the city’s geographic policing.

Along with the trophies for titles, the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference awarded championship pennants through the 2017-18 school year but made a change because some schools have filled their gyms.

According to OVAC Executive Director Dirk DeCoy, the final year the pennants were issued was during the Banquet of Champions in May 2018.

Some miss the banners while others have moved on.

A portion of WV 2, Main Street, in Wheeling, will have the right lane closed between Tenth Street and 16th Street, from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., beginning on Monday, June 17, 2024, through Friday, June 21, 2024, for paving.

Beginning on Monday, June 24, 2024, through Friday, June 28, 2024, the left lane will be closed from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., for paving.

Visitors to The Highlands in Ohio County have started see signs that the development of an amenity-filled shooting center is taking place on land between Bob Evans and the Hampton Inn & Suites.

Officials with the Guntry Club announced at the end of October their intentions to construct and operate a “high-end shooting range” at The Highlands.

The developers are hoping to open the high-end range in the early Fall.

Summer is featuring some learning and fun for Bridgeport Elementary School students who are joining in the academic summer camp through June. This year’s motto is: “Go Wild for Reading and Math.”

Curriculum Director Leslie Kosanovic said 60-70 preschoolers through fourth graders attend every year.

“Any student from our current Pre-K through fourth grade are eligible to attend,” she said.

The Go Wild summer camp is held 9 a.m.-noon June 3-6, June 10-13, and June 17-18 and June 20. There will be no camp on Juneteenth, June 19.
