They say,”A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words”, though thats true, Video can tell a lot more and nowdays with social media and our insatiable appetite for knowledge what better medium to showcase Waterford and The South East with HD Footage of stunning locations with people interacting and enjoying the moment in the short snapshots of time and beauty. If you are looking for a place to go, travel n

o further than Waterford and the South East just a 2 hour motorway trip from Dublin. Sit back grab a coffee and enjoy the splendour you live in, or even better get up and go.

In November 1842 the New Ross barque Ann, arrived at Passage East.  An obligatory inspection by customs officials passed without difficulty and the ship anchored at Cheekpoint to await pilotage to her home port.  However, once in New Ross another customs inspection voiced concern, the ship would b...

It's been a while since I visited Brownstown Head, built 200 years ago, constructed as a navigational aid as was The Metalman on the opposite side of Tramore Bay and Hook Head to the East. The sea was flat calm, plenty of boats on the water and the cliffs were adorned with red clover, I would have liked to stay longer but the place was thick with flies and very uncomfortable, enjoy! 😃

A quick edit of our trip around Coumshingaun earlier, no views of the lake due to fog/cloud and some rain thrown in for good measure :)

Occasionally a blog falls literally into my lap.  So it was with this account when a partial and very faded 19th-century sailing ship log was handed to me recently. But what would the tattered pages of the document reveal? An incredible amount as it happens including the ship, the owner, the crew...

A nice blog about the History of the Red Iron Bridge where I have many memories of growing up, by Waterford Harbour Tides & Tales and a small piece by me also of those memories. :)

Waterford Greenway has brought many benefits to the City & County, and one of them for me was the first views it gave of the Suir Railway Bridge or known in more recent times as the Red Iron located at Grannagh.  Although it might have been new to me, several generations of Waterford youth grew …...

I went out for a look at the newly installed pontoon in Cheekpoint during the week, what an amazing structure and amenity for the area, it means boats can come and go anytime, whereas before they were stuck in the mud at low water and had to wait for high tide to launch.
Thanks to Waterford Airport and air traffic control granting me permission to fly within controlled airspace.

Today marks the opening of the Barrow railway Bridge and the South West Wexford line. I wrote previously about the planning and construction of the Bridge which was started in 1902 by the firm of William Arrol & Co to a design by one of the foremost engineers of the time Sir Benjamin Barker. The pur...

Road trip to Vee and Bay Lough just over the border to Tipp, then to Mount Mellary Abbey before lunch in Dungarvan with a Copper Coast Drive for dessert :)

We got to experience a cruise down to Cheekpoint and back today on the Barrow Princess, about 1 and a half hour round trip, it's nice to see Waterford, Kilkenny and Wexford from a different perspective, we saw an otter several times too but he was too quick for me to capture :) Professional polite crew. You can go inside also but we opted to stay out in the fresh air, with some hot drink and blankets on the way back.

Lashing rain when we headed off this morning, hoping it would have stopped by the time we got to Tra Na Mbo, Bunmahon and it actually did, lucky us, here's a few shots :)

A few shots from Crough Woods Today, the River swollen from the rains, a beautiful peaceful place to walk in all seasons :)

We took a lovely stroll along the Kings Channel walkway to see the extension and improvements made, what a fantastic amenity to have on our doorstep. Our walk brought us from Kings Channel to Glenville Park behind the Circle K hugging the River Suir along the way.

Today we visited Oulart Hill in Wexford, a monument, Tulach A’ Tsolais to the Battle of Oulart Hill in 1798. 10km to the west you can see Vinegar Hill in Enniscorthy where another famous battle took place the same year.

Todays trip brought us to Hook Lighthouse the oldest operational lighthouse in the world. The Scenery is breathtaking, you can see from Helvick head to The Comeraghs, The Blackstairs, The Saltee Islands and all along the Waterford Estuary with the soundtrack of the waves crashing into the rocks on the headland.

A 6:20 AM Start for yesterdays Stunning Coumshingaun Loop. I had planned to fly but the North Westerly got progressively stronger as I ascended and the temperature dropped. Luckily I packed for winter conditions just in case. I brought plenty to drink and eat and had a live tracker on me for safety. Oh and the Bilberries were delicious. Total time 3 hrs 13 mins including filming and breaks :)
