Dating app Bumble is readying to go public as soon as early 2021. Bloomberg says Bumble is seeking an initial-public-offering valuation between $6 billion and $8 billion. Launched by Whitney Wolfe Herd in 2014, Bumble has grown to about 100 million users. It is the second-most-popular dating app after Tinder. As of this recording, Bumble has not responded to the matter. ⁠

Walmart will soon debut a membership program to compete with Amazon. The retailer said Tuesday that it will launch Walmart+ (note: pronounced Walmart Plus) on Sept. 15. The subscription service costs $98 per year or $12.95 on a monthly basis. There are more than 160,000 eligible items, including groceries and home essentials. Members will also get Scan & Go, which lets them scan items as they shop and pay quickly and touch-free. Walmart+ also includes gas discounts. ⁠

The NBA will use arenas as polling places in the upcoming election. The decision is a part of an agreement with local officials to resume playoff games. The NBA and NBPA resumed their playoffs on Saturday, three days after the players’ walkout to protest the shooting of Jacob Blake. ⁠

Amazon is opening the first location of its new chain of Fresh grocery stores. The store is in the Woodland Hills neighborhood in California. Reuters says the store will be the first with the “Amazon Dash Cart.” This lets shoppers check out without waiting in line. The shop also has a counter for picking up and returning web orders, and stations for questioning Amazon’s voice-controlled assistant Alexa.⁠

The FDA has given emergency use authorization for a $5 coronavirus test from Abbott Laboratories. The rapid antigen test is known as the BinaxNOW COVID-19 Ag Card. A healthcare provider gives the patient a nasal swab and transfers it to the test, which is roughly the size of a credit card. A chemical reagent is then added and the patient can read their results directly from the card after 15 minutes. The test is cheaper and faster than traditional ones, but it may not be as sensitive. As a result, the FDA says negative results may need to be confirmed with a molecular test, which is usually more sensitive. Abbott plans to make 50 million tests a month beginning in October. ⁠

TikTok is suing the US government over a ban imposed by President Donald Trump. Trump's executive order prohibits transactions with TikTok's owner ByteDance from mid-September. TikTok argued in California federal court that the administration did not give the company a fair chance to (quote) “defend itself from allegations that it poses a national security risk.”

Uber is adding prescriptions to its growing list of deliveries. It was announced Thursday that Uber Health will partner with the California-based prescription delivery service NimbleRx. They are offering contactless prescription deliveries beginning in Seattle and Dallas. Uber Health and NimbleRx are exploring future locations to expand the initiative to other parts of the country. So far, 15,000 deliveries have been made through the partnership. ⁠

Home is where the heart is, but the lab is where you’ll find these tiny hearts. Researchers at Michigan State University have created miniature human hearts that resemble the real thing. They used a new stem cell network to create the so-called human heart organoids. They gathered the stem cells from adults and used them to jump-start embryonic development. After a few weeks, they had a functional mini heart. The organoid has every primary heart cell type and even has a structure of heart chambers and vascular tissue. The researchers say the mini hearts can help scientists better study cardiac diseases.

Airbnb has confidentially filed for an initial public offering. The vacation rental company confirmed the news Wednesday. It did not share financial information or say how many shares it would offer in the IPO. Airbnb had announced plans to go public earlier this year but shelved them due to the pandemic. The company laid off nearly 2,000 employees in May after the travel industry took a heavy hit from the pandemic.

Apple is now worth $2 trillion, doubling its value in just over two years. It’s the first U.S. company to reach a $2 trillion market cap. CNBC says Apple first reached a $1 trillion market cap in August 2018. On July 31, Apple surpassed the state oil giant Saudi Aramco to become the world’s most valuable publicly-traded company. Apple shares are up about 60% year-to-date. In the past year, its shares have risen more than 120%. ⁠

The 27-year-old singer also expressed her distrust of President Donald Trump. She called for transparency and trust in the government. Biden said he's sure the change in the world will come from the young generation. August 24 is now known as Kobe Bryant Day in Orange County, California. Orange County supervisors voted unanimously to dedicate the day to the 18-time All-Star who died in January in a helicopter crash. USA Today says the date was chosen for the two jersey numbers Bryant wore during his 20-year career with the Lakers: No. 8 and 24. Officials say the day is (quote) “dedicated to all that he brought to Orange County community, which is to strive to live by his words of encouraging those around us to never give up on their dreams.”⁠

Singer The Weeknd is donating $300,000 to Global Aid for Lebanon to assist victims of the Beirut explosion. His manager Wassim Slaiby and his wife who were both born in Lebanon thanked the artist on social media for the donation. TMZ says the money will be distributed to the World Food Programme, the Lebanese Red Cross and the country's Children's Center.

The US Justice Department seized $2 million from more than 300 cryptocurrency accounts run by terrorist groups. Officials say this is described as the largest-ever seizure of its kind. The Department says three overseas terrorist groups used cryptocurrencies and social media to raise funds for their terror campaigns. Federal agents say the al Qaeda campaign was based in Syria and solicited funds to buy weapons. The ISIS campaign took advantage of the Covid-19 pandemic by selling fake personal protective equipment.

The U.S. government is purchasing 100 million doses of Moderna’s experimental coronavirus vaccine. Moderna said the deal for its vaccine is worth $1.53 billion. The company will also allow the federal government to purchase up to 400 million additional doses. The US government also made similar agreements with pharmaceutical companies such as Pfizer, Johnson and Johnson and other drug makers for their potential Covid-19 vaccines.⁠

Uber and Lyft will treat their California drivers as employees rather than independent contractors. The two companies were sued by the California attorney general to enforce a new labor law passed earlier this year. The law requires these app drivers workers to receive the same benefits and treatment as full-time employees.

Lebanon’s prime minister announced his government’s resignation on Monday. He said the deadly explosion in the capital was the result of endemic corruption. In a televised address, Prime Minister Hassan Diab said he backed calls by ordinary Lebanese for those responsible for “this crime” to be put on trial. Diab said on Saturday he would request early parliamentary elections.

President Trump signed four executive orders aimed at providing relief during the pandemic after talks between Congress and the White House collapsed.⁠
Script: On Saturday, President Trump signed four executive orders to provide economic relief during the pandemic. The first defers payroll taxes through the end of 2020 for people who make less than $100,000 per year. The second order renews a moratorium on evictions. The third extends the extra bonus in unemployment checks. The bonus will now be $400, compared to the $600 given under the CARES Act. Trump said the federal government will cover $300 of the bonus, and it will be up to the states to cover the remaining $100. The final executive order defers student loan interest and payments through the end of the year. ⁠

Sixteen employees at Beirut’s port have been arrested over the deadly explosion. A Lebanese judge says 18 people have been questioned so far. All of them are port and customs officials, as well as individuals in charge of maintenance where 2,750 tons of explosive materials have been stored for years.

FBI agents raided the home of YouTube star Jake Paul on Wednesday morning and seized multiple weapons. ABC News says Images captured by a local news helicopter show officers taking several weapons, including at least four long guns, from Paul’s property. The search at his mansion in Calabasas is related to an ongoing investigation, but the FBI could not immediately disclose any details.

President Trump signs the Landmark Conservation Bill into Law. The act, which allocates $900 million a year to the Land and Water Conservation Fund and provides up to $9.5 billion over five years to begin clearing up a maintenance backlog at national parks, was approved on a 310-to-107 vote in the House. It was introduced last year by Representative John Lewis, the Georgia Democrat and civil rights leader who passed away last month.⁠

Spain's former king, Juan Carlos, is leaving the country. The move comes after corruption allegations about him surfaced in recent weeks. In June, the Spanish Supreme Court opened an investigation into Carlos’ involvement in a high-speed rail contract in Saudi Arabia.⁠
