Don't forget to come and see us at the Henry Jones Art Hotel from Feb 3 to March 7 as we create a multicultural photo and story display. Great to see so many podcast participants have already booked photo sessions.
Lots to look forward to in 2025 !

Niall grew up in Belfast in the 90s when the bloody sectarian conflict between Protestants and Catholics still permeated almost every aspect of Northern Ireland society. His family didn't belong to either faction and never bought into the toxicity created by the historical sectarian biases. Living i...

Some more great samples of what you can expect from the 177 Nations of Tasmania Photography and Storytelling project, that will be happening at The Henry Jones Art Hotel from Feb 3 - Mar 7.
More great photos from Andrew Wilson Photography.

From February 3 until March 7, photographer Andrew Wilson and myself will be at the Henry Jones Art Hotel in Hobart, conducting portrait sessions with participants from the 177 Nations of Tasmania podcast. The portraits from these sessions will make up an ongoing display in the Henry Jones gallery during the same period.
In this video I filmed a little of the behind the scenes with a group of 5 participants as a bit of a trial run. I also asked Aidan TKay ( Uganda/Rwanda), Denisse (Ecuador), Cholpon Tabyldieva Bond (Kyrgyzstan), Cedrick ( Democratic Republic of Congo) and Loni (Samoa) about their experiences of being photographed and representing a bit of their heritage. We hope this gives people a bit of an idea of what to expect when they come in to see us at the The Henry Jones Art Hotel in February/March, and that there's nothing really to be nervous about :-).

Just wanted to do a shout out to all the people who've already booked a photo session in February for the 177 Nations Photography and Storytelling project. Such an amazing response already, and it's wonderful to see so many people are embracing our suggestion to wear some clothing and/or bring an object that is significant to where they come from. People are bringing some really interesting things which I think will contribute to a really unique, eye-catching and diverse set of photos - everything from an Ethiopian coffee pot, to a Swiss cowbell to an Andean pipe.
Hope to see more bookings after Christmas ( there's a chance we may add some more times on Saturdays, which I know will be useful for some people).

International Migrants Day 🌍
Today, as we celebrate International Migrants Day, we take a moment to honor the incredible strength, resilience, and contributions of migrants and refugees worldwide. Did you know that 1 out of every 30 people globally is a migrant? These courageous individuals are not just part of their communities; they help shape them.

At MRC Tas, we are committed to supporting migrants and refugees as they build new lives here in Tasmania. Our mission is to ensure that everyone feels welcomed, valued, and empowered to achieve their dreams.

Migration is a journey that could be spurred by challenges such as conflicts, climate-related disasters, and economic pressures. As such, it is important to stand in solidarity and offer support to those seeking safety and opportunity.

Happy International Migrants Day to all migrants making invaluable contributions in enriching our culture, economy, and communities.
Let's continue to foster an environment where everyone, regardless of their origin, can thrive.

BIG ANOUNCEMENT!

I want to share some exciting news about 177 Nations of Tasmania
Recently we’ve won a pretty significant grant from the Hobart City Council, to adapt the podcast into a portrait photography and written storytelling project.

Initially the images and words will be displayed as a public exhibition, with future aims to publish a book.

To capture the portraits I’m collaborating with professional photographer and author, Andrew Wilson.

From February 3 to March 7 2025, Andrew and I will work from a pop-up photography studio in the Henry Jones Art Hotel Gallery Space, on Hobart’s Waterfront.

Our aim is to photograph as many of the participants of the 177 Nations of Tasmania podcast from the Hobart area as we can.
As each person is photographed, prints of their portraits along with some text and audio will be displayed in the Gallery for the general public to view.

Last week we did a couple of initial portrait shoots as a kind of trial and I have attached some behind-the-scenes shots along with a couple of the results.

So please come down to the Henry Jones Art Hotel and see us between February 3 and March 7 to observe the display as it grows and read and listen to the amazing stories that go with each portrait.
