*CHIEF OF THE ARMY STAFF, GENERAL UPENDRA DWIVEDI REVIEWS OPERATIONAL PREPAREDNESS OF WESTERN COMMAND*

The Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), General Upendra Dwivedi, visited the Headquarters of Western Command at Chandimandir today to review the operational preparedness of the Command. During his visit, General Dwivedi was briefed by the Army Commander of Western Command, Lieutenant General Manoj Kumar Katiyar, on various key operational, training, logistical and administrative aspects critical to the Command's effectiveness.

The Army Commander highlighted ongoing force modernisation initiatives and strategic reforms in the operational theatre aimed at enhancing combat readiness. He also provided insights into the administrative and logistical improvements being made to support the Command's operational objectives.

Expressing his appreciation for the efforts of Western Command, General Dwivedi emphasised the importance of integrating advanced technologies to ensure faster and more effective operational capabilities. He further encouraged the senior military leadership to stay well-informed about global geopolitical developments, reinforcing the need to continuously strengthen the Indian Army’s readiness to counter evolving threats from adversaries.

As part of his visit, General Dwivedi also toured the forward operational areas in the Kathua-Pathankot region, where he was briefed by the GOC of Yol-based Rising Star Corps on the prevailing security situation and the operational readiness of the troops stationed there. The COAS commended the personnel of Rising Star Corps for their professionalism and the recent success in counter-terrorism operations in the region, recognising their exemplary performance in ensuring the safety and security of the area.

The visit underscored the Indian Army's commitment to maintaining the highest standards of operational preparedness, modernising forces and fostering a strategic environment for effective defence operations.

Poonch admin finalizes Action Plan to benefit tribal population

POONCH, NOVEMBER 08: Deputy Commissioner Poonch Vikas Kundal on Friday convened a meeting to discuss and finalize the modalities for effective Implementation and successful ex*****on of Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan (DAJGUA).

The centrally sponsored flagship scheme was launched by the Prime Minister on October 2-2024 to uplift tribal communities and ensure their socio-economic development. The Welfare scheme includes provision for housing, employment opportunities, and educational scholarships for tribal youth.

Maintaining that Poonch District has a huge chunk of tribal population, the DC highlighted the central government’s efforts towards development of these communities and the initiatives aimed at enhancing infrastructure, education, and healthcare services in tribal regions.

The Abhiyan aims to fill critical gaps in social infrastructure, health, education, and livelihood through 25 intervention schemes implemented by 17 central Ministries and the Departments.

The DC directed the PO ICDS to constitute District level Committee and Block level orientation Committees of all line Departments for effective implementation of DAJGUA scheme across the district.

Directions were issued to saturate all the schemes for the welfare of tribals. The Janjatiya Gaurav Divas will be celebrated at Dak Banglow Poonch on November 15.

The meeting was attended by ADC Poonch, PO ICDS, ACD Poonch, ACP, CEO, Principal SKC GDC Poonch, DSWO, BDO Headquarter, Tehsildar Haveli, Warden GB & Pahari hostel Poonch besides other concerned officers and officials.

The Indian Army meticulously organized sporting events at Mandi of Poonch, spanning two weeks, culminating in a grand finale that left an indelible mark on the district. Poonch Link up Day 2024 celebrations sought to rekindle the sporting spirit among the youth, fostering community solidarity and paying tribute to India's rich national history and military triumphs. Volleyball, cricket, football, and hockey competitions were held in Poonch showcasing the district's hidden talent and unrelenting passion for sports. Over 20 teams participated, with Shahpur Club emerging victorious in volleyball, Shayam Lal Hockey Club claiming the hockey title, and Saheed Manjeet Singh Club triumphing in cricket. As the tournaments progressed, the excitement was palpable. Schools, colleges, and local markets buzzed with anticipation, as youngsters eagerly discussed match strategies and shared stories of their idols. The events became a beacon of hope, inspiring a sense of unity and shared purpose. On the final day the district's stadiums were abuzz with energy. The Indian Army efforts were lauded by local residents, who appreciated the organization's commitment to empowering youth and promoting community engagement. "This initiative has brought our children together, giving them a platform to showcase their talents and build friendships," said a proud parent. The success of Poonch Day 2024 celebrations serves as a testament to the transformative power of sports. By harnessing the energy of youth and channelling it into constructive pursuits, the Indian Army has paved the way for a brighter future. As the dust settles and the stadiums empties, the memories of Poonch Link up Day 2024 will linger. *Bodies of Two VDG Members Found After Being Abducted And Killed In Kishtwar*

Jammu, November 07(GNS): Two Village Defense Guard members who were abducted and Killed yesterday by militants have been found by security forces on Friday.

Officials told GNS that two VDG members who were abducted and killed yesterday have been found by security forces after 18 hours long search operation.

Yesterday, a picture went viral on social in which two two dead bodies were seen handcuffed with injury marks.

Soon police took the cognizance of the case and families of the deceased were contacted and they confirmed their identity.

They have been identified as Nazir and Kuldeep both resident of Ohli Kuntwara.

Meanwhile, people from all walks protested today in Kishtwar and other districts this gruesome killings.(GNS)

Srinagar, November 8(GNS): Inspector General of Police Kashmir Vidhi Kumar Birdi said that Sunday Market Gr***de Blast case has been solved and three militants associates have been arrested in this regard.

During the press conference, the IGP said that last Sunday around 2:15 p.m terrorists hurled a gr***de attack in the Srinagar Sunday market, in which 12 people were injured in which two were critically injured.

In this case, Srinagar police collected evidence and arrested three people in this connection who are residents of Srinagar and were guided from Pakistan handlers to disturb the peace in Srinagar.

They have been identified as Usma Yaseen Sheikh, Umar Fayaz Sheikh and Afnan Manzoor Sheikh all are resident of Ihkrajpura Srinagar. They hurled gr***de with the intention to disrupt the peace and business in the Srinagar.

All three have been booked UAPA and the case has been registered in Kothibagh police station, the IGP said.(GNS)

Srinagar, November 8(GNS): Two militants have been killed in a night long operation in Sagipora area of North Kashmir's Sopore on Friday.

A top police officer told GNS that two militants have been killed so far in the exchange of fire with the security forces.

Yesterday an operation was launched in Sagipora area after having specific input about presence of some militants in the area.

However operation was suspended for the night for precautionary measures and was resumed this morning with the first light of the day.(GNS)

Jammu, November 08(GNS): Two Village Defense Guard members were abducted and Killed by militants in Kishtwar district on Thursday.

Officials told GNS that as reported, two VDG members, Nazir Ahmed and Kuldeep Kumar from Ohli Kuntwara, have gone missing in the upper reaches while grazing livestock.

Latter on photographs of their dead bodies were circulating on social media. Their family members were contacted by police and they have confirmed their identities, he said.

On this a joint search operation by Police & Army is underway. Updates to follow, he added.(GNS)

Srinagar, November 7(GNS): Some gunshots were heard during cordon and search operation in Sagipora area of North Kashmir's Sopore on Thursday evening.

A top police officer told GNS that on a specific input a cordon and search operation was launched in Sagipora by a joint team of Police and army this evening.

During searches, some gunshots were heard subsequently the security cordon was tightened around the area, he said.

Jammu police with a clear stance of *zero tolerance* to Drugs abuse raided at the house of a Police constable namely Parwaiz Khan S/O Late Mohd R/O Azmatabad Thanamandi Rajouri A/P Gujjar Mohalla Janipur and recovered approximately 33 grams of He**in (Chitaa) like narcotics, 22 mobile phones,weighing machine, Rs.25640/,foil papers and other paraphenalia used in making small bits of Chitta/He**in for further selling to innocent youths of the area for gaining undue profits from sale of narcotics.

Janipur police also arrested his two wives Nargis Bhat and Parveen Akhtar and narcotics was also recovered from their possession. Both Nargis Bhat and Parveen Akhtar were assisting him in making bits and further selling to their clients in the local area.

In this regard a case FIR no. 128/2024 U/S 8/21/22/29/27A NDPS Act has been registered and investigation is in full swing.

The said constable is posted in Crime and has been placed under suspension with immediate effect. Janipur Police is also doing his financial investigation as he has acquired two houses at Janipur and accumulated huge property.

Janipur Police station is also in process to attach his illegitimate property which is proceed of narcotics.

Parwaiz Khan’s arrested has proved that police is duty bound to save the innocent youth of this country from the menace of drug abuse and zero tolerance to peddlers who are doing this immoral trade which has resulted in many youth’s death due to overdose.

DC Poonch reviews working of Rural Development Department

POONCH, NOVEMBER 07: To review the physical and financial progress of developmental works being executed by Rural Development Department under different centrally sponsored schemes and programmes, Deputy Commissioner Poonch, Vikas Kundal chaired a meeting of concerned officers here in the Conference Hall of DC Office Complex.

At the outset of the meeting, Assistant Commissioner Development appraised the chair about the current status of different works spearheaded by RDD Poonch besides presented a PPT on progress achieved under the centrally sponsored schemes including MGNREGA, PMAY-G, APDP, CD & Panchayat, Labour Budget, SSY and other related schemes.

The ACD apprised that PMAY completion of district is 85%among highest in UT, more than 50%of work projected on SECURE portal have been completed under MGNREGA in FY2024-25. The department will achieve the target of Person day generation well within time.

The DC emphasized transparency and accountability as central principles in RDD sector projects across the district. He laid stress on convergence with other departments in building community developmental assets.

The DC highlighted the critical importance of social audit terming it as the backbone of MGNREGA.

The BDOs were instructed to ensure the completion of capex work of 2024-25 projects within the specific timeframe to avoid lapse of funds .

The Deputy Commissioner directed the ACD to monitor the departmental works on a regular basis. He further directed the ACD to grade the EPM of the BDOs according to their performances similarly Executive Engineer REW shall also rank EPM of AEEs/ AEs in line.

The meeting was attended by ACD Poonch, ACP Poonch, XEN REW, BDOs, AEEs, and other RDD officials.

Major General Anupinder Bevli, VSM, ADG, NCC Dte JK&L made a significant visit to the Army Attachment Camp, where he interacted with cadets undergoing training at the Army Attachment Camp with 17 MADRAS. The visit was marked by his engagement with the cadets, witnessing their training. A total of 50 Cadets are undergoing the attachment camp.

The General Officer emphasised that "NCC is dedicated to shaping the future of our youth," “This training exemplifies commitment to empowering cadets with practical knowledge, leadership skills and values essential for success in all walks of life."

The visit of Major General Anupinder Bevli, VSM, underscored the importance of mentorship, leadership and motivation in nurturing the potential of the cadets. The Training being imparted to the cadets during the attachment camp aims to develop character, discipline and leadership qualities in future military leaders. He spent valuable time engaging with the cadets, learning about their training experiences. His presence provided cadets with a unique opportunity to interact with the General Officer and gain inspiration from him.
