Meet Becky Yackley: a mother, competitor and educator with a passion for learning and the great outdoors. I’m lucky enough to know Becky through my mom, and we’ve met quite a few times in the last few years. We exchanged chickens once and she even taught Mom, my sister and me how to dye fabrics with plant material. Becky is always fun to be around with her vibrant personality, and she’s capable, too.

Gal Gab 2025 kicks off with pro-shooter Becky Yackley, who tells our intern, Anna, what she’d use to battle a giant, along with other important information.

I grew up in central Missouri, where whitetail hunting (at least for me) consisted of a 100-yard walk to a homemade box stand overlooking a field with a max range of 175 yards. So, when I was told I’d be headed to Ennis, Montana. to oversee a media elk hunt featuring the new Aero Precision Solus Lightweight Hunter topped with the EOTech Vudu X 2-12x40, I was excited for the opportunity to learn the ropes of Western hunting from a sideline perspective. It would be my first elk hunt.

AERO Precision’s marketing manager, Torrie Roodhouse, went on her first elk hunt with a group of hunters in Montana. Find out more about her experience and the gear, including a rifle, that didn’t fail her in the field.

Passion for the outdoors isn't something that the members of TeamWON save just for Valentine's Day. In fact, this love motivates all of us every day to get out and enjoy the activities we cherish, and then create content around those experiences. Our posts run the gamut of topics - from Shane Koo writing about sharing her love of rock climbing with her daughter to Angie Perry bringing us along on her first ever duck hunt in Arkansas.

A quick review of how TeamWON shares its love for adventures in the outdoors year round, not just on Valentine's Day. Read this post at The WON.

I love the idea of making soap, but it does seem daunting. Each batch must be cured before it can be used, and like many people I’m a little nervous about using lye, a necessary ingredient. While I haven’t checked making soap from scratch off of my list yet, I am a step closer with melt and pour soap. Melt and pour is a wonderful way to dip your toes into soap making, especially if you worry about lye or have children who love to craft. At its simplest it only requires a premade soap base, heat and a mold. At the same time, the process can be as complicated and customizable as you like, with infinite color and mold possibilities and a wide variety of soap bases to choose from.

Our fabulous intern Anna dips her toes into soap making by creating this melt and pour soap, which requires only simple ingredients.

As we age, we can experience an extensive array of emotional and physical changes. Obviously, individual situations will differ, but it is very common for mature people to have bouts of sadness, loneliness, hearing and vision loss and physical limitations. This is not a blanket statement as no two people age exactly alike and their emotions are exclusive to them, but we all know that Old Father Time waits for no one.

The Complete Combatant’s Shelley Hill delves into research surrounding seniors and when and where they are vulnerable to attacks and thefts. Find out more here, and how you can, hopefully, prevent being target by society’s miscreants.

Since I first became involved in the fi****ms industry, I've heard numerous stories about men coercing women into using revolvers for personal protection. There are complaints about a husband purchasing his wife a small revolver or the man at the fi****ms counter saying, "Well, little lady, what you need is a nice revolver." Now, bear with me; I want to convince you of the validity of some people choosing revolvers for personal protection and a way to set them up for success.

Michelle Cerino talked to some female gun pros about why revolvers can work well for personal protection.

For the better part of the last 2 decades, I have not paid much attention to the progression of AR style weapons, ever since diving into long range shooting with bolt action rifles. I had been trained on the M-16 during my time in the Army and purchased one of the familiar AR-15 civilian versions years ago. An AR-10 has long been on my “wish list” of guns to add to the collection, but after 20 years of having my head in the sand and every time I popped up to take a peek into acquiring one of my own, the completely mind-numbing number of manufacturers of AR style weapons and accessories was just too much to sift through, until now. I got the opportunity to review a unique version of the AR-10, Springfield Armory’s Saint Victor .308 AR-10 pistol.

She's trying something new. Jen Barcklay reviews a unique version of the AR-10, Springfield Armory’s Saint Victor .308 AR-10 pistol. Read this popular post from our archives:

Over the past year I have been planning a hunt in the north central part of Montana. We were going to be backpack hunting for migrating mule deer near the Canadian border. One thing I was keeping in mind was the presence of grizzly bears. I had a great 9mm carry pistol, but when it comes to grizzlies, that 9mm would only do the job of putting a bear down in an emergency if I had a perfect shot. The more I read and researched, the more concerned I felt about safety from bears on our hunt. Then, my editor at The WON recommended that I try out the Ta**us Raging Hunter 44 Magnum.

Amy Hall takes this self-defense firearm afield on a muley hunt in Montana. Find out what she thinks about it in this popular review from our archives:

The 12th season of National Geographic’s series “Wicked Tuna” starts with splash, as the first-ever female tuna boat captain appears on the show. Captain Michelle Bancewicz, along with her first mate, Lea Pinaud, take Michelle’s boat, “No Limits,” on the water to compete with fellows in the fishing industry. Michelle is no stranger to the world of tuna fishing, though. In fact, you may have heard about or seen her video of when she hauled aboard – solo – a 643-pound bluefin tuna.

Meet Michelle Bancewicz, the first female captain ever to compete on National Geographic’s popular TV show, “Wicked Tuna.” Michelle and first mate, Lea Pinaud, appeared in the fleet of the 12th season of the show. Hop over to The WON to read this popular post from our archives.
