I want to give a huge shout out to Bob Ferguson over at Signtist Signs and Decals. Not only does he and his team do an amazing job on all of my decals and signs, but he is also doing some behind the scenes work talking to his clients and friends about the Get Kids Fishing program. There is a good possibility that we will be getting a TON of support from local businesses and people supporting the program. I have to make several phone calls and talk with everyone to work out all of the details. I'm already brainstorming a way to throw a big kick off BBQ for next May to say thank you to all of them and to get this program off to a running start. I have had an overwhelming amount of support for this and I can't thank everyone enough. Together we are going to make this happen and even if it only makes a difference in one kids life, it'll all be worth it. I've always said from the beginning that I just want to be the person that I needed when I was growing up and with this program starting, I believe that I can now honestly say that I am that person. So thank you!

🎉🎉I got full support from city council for the Get Kids Fishing Program. They just have to talk with the recreation and visitor center staff, then the program should be up and running. Most likely won't be this year but come May next year, you'll be able to sign out a fishing rod and gear and go fishing. Plus it'll give me more time to purchase more gear. It's a big win and a big step forward to getting more kids and their families into the outdoors!

The blueberries are coming in nice this year! There's still a few that aren't ripe yet but I'm thinking by next week they will be good to go. These ones sure tasted good.

Found some twinberry honeysuckle. The berries are bitter and considered toxic and poisonous but it is said that natives used to use the berries for dies for their hair. It also attracts humming birds, bees and butterflies.

While doing some editing and creating thumbnails, I'm watching videos on freediving, spearfishing and handcatching on the BC coast. It has me wanting to get into it and give it a try. Being able to seek out and shoot fish is a cool way to "hunt" in the ocean. On top of that you get to see the ocean in a totally different way and interact with so many different fish, seals, sea lions and sea life in general.

Today smells and feels like a warm early September day. You have the heat from the sun mixed in with some cold, moist wind gust and you can smell the moisture from the incoming rain as well as the rain we got last night. It's getting me extremely excited for September which I have 21 days booked off of work for.

Having these marmots around at work is almost like having a work pet. They're entertaining to watch and some of them get pretty friendly. This little guy, Moe, is one of the friendly pups from this year's litter. For whatever reason he loves to sprawl out on the expanded metal steps into our buildings and camp shacks and really likes his little metal basket.

Looks like we are getting a break from this heat wave tomorrow so it'll be a good day to work on Ruby, try to fire it up and possibly even take her on her maden voyage. I'm thinking of adding a couple decals to the old girl if she floats and runs the way she's supposed to and put a little lipstick on the pig.

A slight rant and speaking my mind on this one.

A small hiccup in getting the Get Kids Fishing Program going. I had to be present at the council meeting but like a lot of people in the North, I work in camp so it's being pushed till the end of July to the next council meeting that I'll be home for. It is still on the table but I'll also be reaching out to another vendor as well to get this going. I can already see it becoming a political type of headache which I will avoid at all cost. I submitted a delegation request and wrote a detailed letter of intent hoping that they would table it and talk amongst the council and make their decision. I shouldn't have to sit in a meeting and say exactly what's already written in the letter of intent. This is why programs like this typically don't go forward. There's to much red tape and political BS that goes into it and the worst part is that it's to get kids into the outdoors and im not asking for money from the city. There shouldn't be any hesitation to get more kids and families into the outdoors especially when the slogan for the town is the Playground of the North. If it was up to me I would also have side by side, atv, canoe, kayak, paddle boards and camping gear rentals to give the families something to play with. Don't call yourself a playground when there's not even a swing set kind of thing. With this all being said, I'm a stubborn bastard and I will see this go through and it will be a program that will see growth and expansion. With my entrepreneur mindset, by the end, Buick Outdoors will be a major asset in getting more kids and families into nature and enjoying the great outdoors even if I have to run and fund the entire business myself.

The Get Kids Fishing Program is being presented to the members of council Monday night to try to allow me to use the Visitors Center as the host of the program. With any luck this might be one of the last things to do and it'll officially be on.
