Functional foods are reshaping the pet food industry, focusing on ingredients that enhance pet health beyond basic nutrition. Beta-glucans, like those in MacroGard, boost immune function by modulating immune responses. Derived from yeast, these bioactive molecules, rich in beta-1,3/1,6-glucans, also act as prebiotics, improving gut health.

As the industry embraces evolving trends like clean-label and sustainability, yeast-derived products are gaining attention as complementary alternatives to traditional protein sources. Autolyzed and hydrolyzed yeasts, known for their high protein digestibility, enriched vitamin B complex, and increased amino acids, contribute to improved palatability and support overall pet health.

Research, such as the study by Martins et al. (2013), indicates that dogs prefer foods containing yeast. Additionally, Ferreira et al. (2022) demonstrate that the inclusion of functional ingredients like MacroGard can significantly improve metabolic health in obese dogs by reducing glucose levels and inflammation. This evidence supports the growing trend toward health-oriented pet foods that incorporate functional ingredients to meet the increasing demand for nutritional benefits.

The ICC's yeast solutions derived from sugarcane bring unique benefits to pet nutrition. Unlike the primary fermentation yeasts commonly used in baking and brewing, these hardy yeast cells withstand tough fermentation conditions, building up thicker cell walls that are packed with β-glucans. This yeast comes from a sustainable production cycle where sugarcane is transformed into multiple valuable products: sugar, ethanol, energy, yeast-based additives, and fertilizer. This circular approach not only lowers environmental impact but also contributes functional ingredients to pet food.

Incorporating ICC's yeast solutions allows pet food producers to boost both the sustainability of their products and the health benefits for pets.
