Today New Year’s Eve Ball Has Finally Retired!

The current iteration of the Times Square New Year’s Eve Ball is the eighth since the tradition began in 1907 and has been on display since 2008. One Times Square will welcome a brand-new Ball and Numerals for next year’s New Year’s Eve celebration.

The current Ball will be retired and displayed inside as part of the new Times Travel immersive history experience, which is opening to the public in the fall. Visitors to the experience will journey through decades of change in Times Square, experiencing time in unexpected ways, including an eternal midnight moment where they can view past New Year’s Eve Balls. The experience will culminate at a 360-degree viewing deck above Times Square, offering an elevated perspective of the New Year’s Eve Ball and views of the city from river to river.

Times Square New Year’s Eve Ball 2025 🪩

The New Year’s Eve Ball is a geodesic sphere, 12 feet in diameter, weighing 11,875 pounds. The Ball is covered with a total of 2,688 crystal triangles that vary in size, ranging in length from 4 3/4 inches to 5 3/4 inches per side.

This is the last year for this Ball to drop, as it will be permanently placed in a new museum at the One Times Square Building set to open in 2025. Visitors will be able to view the Ball year-round.

2025 New Year’s Eve Numerals in Times Square 2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣5️⃣

The 2025 numerals have arrived in Times Square at Duffy Square (Broadway and 46th Street) and will be on display until Sunday, December 22. Afterward, they will be moved to the top of One Times Square. The 2025 sign will light up at midnight on December 31, following the ball drop.
