Canadian guitarist Jesse Cook, who plays the Bank of America Performing Arts Center, Thousand Oaks this Saturday, said he considers the Los Angeles area his second home. Canadian guitarist Jesse Cook said he feels helpless. Bringing music to California seems trite in light of the devastation caused by the Eaton and Palisades fires.

Cheeky English pop star Robbie Williams may be a household name abroad, but he’s been garnering attention in the States thanks to the new film “Better Man,” which tells his story from his time as a 15-year-old in the boy band Take That to his successful solo career. There’s a twist — Jonno Davies, as a CGI chimpanzee through voice acting and motion capture, plays Williams.

Cheeky English pop star Robbie Williams is a household name abroad. In the United States, however, he lives a relatively anonymous lifestyle in Los Angeles.

No one could have accurately predicted the scope of the disaster that would rage through hillside neighborhoods in Pacific Palisades and Altadena, destroying over 12,000 structures and claiming dozens of lives.

Ventura County authorities were already on high alert as a Santa Ana windstorm of historic proportions bore down on Southern California, described as “life threatening” by National Weather Service forecasters.

In this week’s issue: Deborah Howard founded Companion Animal Protection Society in 1992 because she was so moved by the plight of dogs sold in retail pet stores across the United States. A native of Los Angeles who has also resided in Colorado and Massachusetts, Howard moved to Thousand Oaks four years ago, where she lives with her three dogs and two cats. We details her journey in our cover story.

In other news, the power of mother nature will be on display the morning of Monday, Jan. 13, when a so-called “king tide” arrives along the Ventura County coastline.

Also, health care agency Kaiser Permanente has donated $95,000 to 805 UndocuFund, which provides disaster relief to undocumented residents.

Then, read our interview with rapper Slug, one-half of Atmosphere with producer Ant. The hip-hop duo will perform at Ventura Music Hall later this month.
