The Dr. Seuss-esque instruments are the work of 15-year-old Zoie Hale, a Fort Mill High School sophomore who the store enlisted to help jazz up Howren Music Store's display case.

Office mates: Wes was hired to turn around a law company in the building. I would see him in the halls and we’d talk about common interests. After thecompany closed, we were doing a walk-through of the office and I agreed to have dinner with him when he got back from Belgium.

In the $290 million bond package for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, leaders are planning a magnet school in southern Ballantyne. The magnet would follow the STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) model.

The Town of Pineville has hired Haynes Brigman as its new Town Administrator.

Haynes has previous experience as the Town Manager of Yanceyville, NC, a community of about 2,500 residents.

He is a graduate of Appalachian State University with a Bachelor of Science in Political Science and Masters in Public Administration.

Haynes will begin his tenure with the Town of Pineville on December 2, 2013. ^EA

U.S. Congressman Robert Pittenger, who represents the N.C. 9th Congressional District, will attend the Oct. 15 North Mecklenburg Republican Women meeting.

Developers recently met with Dilworth residents to discuss a proposed mixed-use project at the corner of Kenilworth Avenue and Morehead Street.

The project is proposing up to a 15,000-square-foot pharmacy with an interior drive-thru and up to 380 rental units at a maximum height of 100 feet.

Mecklenburg County is asking residents to help clean up area creeks and lakes during Big Sweep, which will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sept. 28.

Some of the areas of focus include Campbell Creek Greenway, Irwin Creek Greenway, Latta Plantation and McMullen Creek Greenway.

Robbery Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department have charged Mitchell Treible, 25, John Bowlin, 34, ...

Robbery Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department have charged Mitchell Treible, 25, John Bowlin, 34, & Jennifer Melton, 32 in several recent armed robberies in the South Division.

About 12:45 a.m. on July 29,, two victims were robbed at gunpoint by two white male suspects at the 9200 block of Baybrook Lane. One of the suspects fired a shotgun into the air during the robbery. The suspects then drove off in a maroon Mitsubishi. Later that morning, at about 1:55 a.m., a victim was robbed at gunpoint at the 10300 block of Salvia Street by two white males as she was exiting her vehicle. The suspects fired a shotgun during the course of the robbery and fled by vehicle.

Police arrested the three adults in connection with the crimes and believe that the suspects were also involved in other crimes throughout Charlotte and York County, SC.

The city of Charlotte wants to make Scaleybark Road safer by lowering the speed limit, narrowing the road and adding other traffic-calming features, Engineering and Property Management staff said this week during a public meeting.

One of the major changes the city of Charlotte will make to Scaleybark Road will be the elimination of a merging lane on the westbound approach to Scaleybark from Woodlawn Road.
