Querido Puerto Rico,
On July 31, 2023, Laurisa Schutt from First State Educate
Contact: Laurisa Schutt [email protected]; 302-545-6556 wrote the following in regards to Julia Keleher and her new role as Executive Director:
“Her role in Puerto Rico attracted controversy. After leading Hurricane Maria recovery efforts and
passing an education reform bill, Keleher became the target of a federal investigation and was sentenced to six months in federal prison and twelve months of home confinement on conspiracy charges.”
🚨When corruption and oppression get rewarded with absolutely zero regard for the victims and when one of the most devastating natural disasters in human history gets used and mentioned lightheartedly. You are not just slapping 3.5 million humans in the face. You are also letting the rest know you don’t care. That’s when we must ask ourselves, is money more important than the people we choose as leaders? Is money more important than equity and education? Is money more important than civil liberties? I am still stunned that you can have the letter ACLU next to a celebration of Corruption, Colonialism at its finest, and the Reward of Oppression. Not once did I ever think important organizations in Delaware would talk about damaging occurrences in Puerto Rico like it was NOTHING, and without consulting the people of Puerto Rico directly, the ones that paid the price and suffering. I know it looks like I am just one person complaining. But don’t worry. We don’t jump into congratulating or actions without consultation and organizing. After all, we are the people who took an entire summer to make sure a corrupt Governor stepped down. By: Maria Beauchamp
