KATIE GERARDINE O’NEILL : I NIGHT

"I Night" is the new release by experimental artist Katie Gerardine O’Neill who has recently taken Dublin by storm. O’Neill uses reel to reel tape, field recording, live instruments and software to make beautiful, textured ambient art. Dual (Song for the Sky) features sodden pads and crisp vocals while Autobahn has a racetrack feel to the drum pattern. On the title piece I Night, Katie reads/sings an excerpt from "Stigmata: Escaping Texts" by French writer Hélène Cixous over a strained fiddle.

OUT NOW! SUNKEN FOAL : REVEAL IN FINDER Sunken Foal returns for his 9th studio album but first on FES with Reveal in Finder. There’s a certain vintage aesthetic to much of what’s going on here. Pianos and stringed instruments meet bubbling 808 percussion sounds, bass guitar and fizzy sample work. Talk boxes and vocoders play a role, while ‘Siel Orchestra’ glints and chunky ‘Moog’ squelches adorn the rest. Using algorithmic sequencing methods to investigate the structural forms of various styles of rhythm, tone and melody, then sculpting the results into a kind of mechanical psychedelic studio-pop, Dunk delivers as always with this latest album as probably his best yet. Sometimes containing glorious slow pads, but sometimes funk that makes the listener’s shoulders and hips move in opposite directions, and yet at times, reveals its fair share of unsettling dark corners.
