Radar Check.

Over the last 30 minutes, a significant thunderstorm cluster off the Wilmington coast will affect the Crystal Coast and parts of Pamlico Sound counties within the next hour. Heavy rain may cause significant ponding on roadways during the storm's peak. Some weak rotation has been detected by radar within the strongest storm. A waterspout is possible over beaches and sound-side areas. Gusty winds of 40-50 mph are likely and could bring down small limbs. Be aware of your surroundings and seek shelter if a warning is issued.

Cities impacted include Sneads Ferry, Cape Carteret, Morehead City, Beaufort, Newport, Cedar Island Ferry Terminal, Havelock, Oriental, Swansquarter, Columbia, and Ocracoke.

Everyone says thank you, rain!

This band of showers and thunderstorms tracking across the area has done us a huge favor. The cold front, located west of Raleigh, will continue the threat of isolated or scattered damaging wind gusts later this afternoon. For now, this activity has just about eliminated any threat of a tornado.

Always remain alert for rapid changes in weather. Any threat of a weak spin-up will be along the beaches and Outer Banks; any waterspouts reaching ashore will mainly occur after 3 p.m.

Radar Check.

Several bands of showers and thunderstorms continue to increase in coverage across the region. High winds have now begun in the coastal region where Wind Advisories are issued for Downeast Carteret County and the Outer Banks.

The areas of most concern for any severe weather threat will be east of I-95, but greatest along and east of Hwy 17 from Wilmington, Jacksonville, New Bern, Elizabeth City, and toward the Outer Banks.

Isolated tornadoes are possible in these areas, along with a scattered damaging wind threat.

Be storm-ready and take action if and when a warning is issued!

The Storm Prediction Center has increased the threat of wind damage and even a few quick spin-ups across eastern NC Wednesday. As per this morning's discussion, we continue to see a trend of a strong line of showers and thunderstorms progressing across the area during the peak heating of the day. Stay tuned for more updates today and this morning as the system unfolds.

Good morning, everyone.

Tomorrow's weather event will be a hard-hitting system. The forecast includes heavy rain, wind, and even a chance of damaging winds with this heavy band of showers and embedded thunderstorms. Models this morning are showing stronger potential, but remain isolated to scattered strong thunderstorms. The bigger question will be the cool marine layer over eastern North Carolina with a cool south wind off the Atlantic. If this were to break, a more scattered to widespread damaging wind event may occur. More details over the next 24 hours will be key to determining whether this will be a much-needed rain event or something more.

Always be storm-ready, no matter the time of year. Prepare your yard for high winds starting tonight through much of the day tomorrow. Have your phone or TV on for any weather alerts.

Windstorm is on schedule for tonight and the first part of tomorrow.

A strong low-pressure system is forecast to track across the New England region with a fast-moving cold front. A high-pressure system will push offshore, creating a tight pressure gradient between the two systems.

Strong southwest winds will be quite gusty, between 25–35 mph for all inland areas. In coastal regions and on exposed beaches, winds will gust to 45–55 mph, especially between midnight and noon tomorrow.

Be sure all loose objects and Christmas decorations are secured.

Another arctic blast will quickly follow the front tomorrow night and into the weekend.

Looking ahead, there is a potential for accumulating rainfall and thunderstorms. We will continue to monitor the latest trends for any severe weather in the eastern part of the state.

A disturbance in the atmosphere crossing the region early this morning has created a nice patch of snow around the Sandhills region. Reports indicate that an inch of snow has fallen in areas with the snow icon, such as Randolph County. Scattered snow showers will continue to move eastward toward the coast through sunrise. A light coating or dusting of snow is possible in heavier bursts.
