Satellite images of North and South Carolina show the center of the Nor'easter making landfall over Carteret County in the next hour. High surf and a storm surge of 3-5 ft is currently happening across the river basin, sounds, and Outer Banks. Numerous roads are closed due to saltwater flooding.

Winds are calm to 10 mph across the Crystal Coast. Outside, especially to the north, winds continue to blow 25-35 mph with gusts to 40 mph at times.

The sun may even come out for a few hours before the back side moves back in. Winds will pick up, but not as strong as last night, for the Crystal Coast and in a NW direction.

Keep an eye out for the sound side Outer Banks, as the wind shift may bring a storm surge with the wind direction tonight and tomorrow.

Be safe, everyone, and do not attempt to drive through flooded roadways.

***Crystal Coast***

Dual supercells with waterspouts are moving toward Cape Lookout shores, including Core Sound, Bogue Sound, and Fort Macon State Park. These storms are moving slowly toward the Eastern Carteret County shoreline in a few hours. Also, excessive rainfall from these may prompt a Flash Flood Warning and maybe gusts to 60 mph. Stay alert for rapid changes in the weather. Take action as soon as a warning is issued for your area.

Current conditions in Morehead City, NC, along the Crystal Coast. Winds are gusting to 40 mph and getting stronger. There are a couple of waterspouts off Cape Lookout shores moving in. Heavy rain is causing travel issues around town. To our east, several areas are without power near Beaufort and parts of Downeast Carteret County.

⚠️Evening Hazardous Weather Update

💨The Wind Advisory issued earlier has expanded to many counties adjacent to coastal areas, including areas surrounding the Pamlico and Albemarle Sounds. Winds will increase from south to north this evening with wind gusts up to 50mph expected through tonight and into tomorrow. Gusts 55-60mph remain possible along the Outer Banks south of Oregon Inlet and Cedar Island.

🌊Coastal Flood Warnings have also expanded for areas adjacent to the lower Neuse River. Areas within the warnings have the highest likelihood of seeing moderate to locally major impacts from coastal flooding through tomorrow. A Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect through Monday morning for the remainder of the NC Coast including areas adjacent to the Pamlico and Pungo rivers.

The greatest impacts (coastal flooding, heavy rain, and gusty winds) will remain along the immediate coast through Sunday night.

🌪🌩Guidance continues to suggest that rotating storms may approach the coast by late this evening, continuing through tonight and into tomorrow morning, as the coastal low nears the region.
The primary threat for tornadoes, waterspouts, and damaging wind gusts will be along the immediate coast.

☑️Be Informed- have multiple ways to get information and enable alerts on your cell phone.

☑️Have a Plan- make sure that you and your family know what actions you will take to protect yourselves in the event of flooding or a tornado.

☑️Ready the Disaster Kit- make sure you have that kit ready to go should you lose power and experience impacts.
