Remember that surviving and getting to the end of 2020 is just as much an accomplishment than a long list of things you learned to do or had to do for growth.
There is an instinctive push every end of year to grandstand what we have learned or done- admittedly I was the same- honestly, many of us that are “Type A” would do that in a heartbeat.
This year hasn’t given us the ability to grandstand as much and I am okay. Did I learn things during the pandemic? Sure.
I made the Dalgona coffees and baked a lot. So did 2/3 of the world.
I lost a lot too. Family, a wedding to my husband, etc.
But 2020 made me remember to be thankful for who/what I have- and the fact that I survived.
It’s okay to just have survived.
Leaders down to followed - we made it.
Here is to applying what we learned in 2020 to 2021.

MENTORS!!!⠀
⠀
If you need one make sure that they:⠀
⠀
1) Know what you need mentoring in!! ⠀
⠀
(is it networking? Tough conversations? Coaching, business acumen, facilitation, etc.). If you aren’t specific to what they will⠀
Be mentoring you on - how are you and them going to develop a growth plan?⠀
⠀
2) They have TIME! ⠀
So let’s say you find the perfect mentor- make sure they have the time to commit to you. ⠀
⠀
3) Make sure you are clear in your expectations and what you want to learn from them (they will more than likely teach you more than you are asking for) but let them know what YOU need from THEM to feel successful.⠀
⠀
4) Set up weekly or timely check ins!!⠀
Whether they work for your company or are external- there should be a plan in place that includes check ins. This will foster communication and also help with following up on deliverables.⠀
⠀
5) Hold yourself and them accountable for meetings. Do Not expect the mentor to do all the work ⠀
⠀
6) Maximize your time! ⠀
You get what you put in.⠀
⠀
7) Don’t be afraid to seek multiple mentors for different things. ⠀
⠀
8) Acknowledge your strengths and weaknesses honestly. Ask questions and always ask for feedback.⠀
⠀
⠀
Mentors are important - they will⠀
Help you face ideas and practices head on- good, bad, or indifferent - their goal is to help you learn. If it doesn’t work out. Let them know that and WHY it isn’t working. ⠀
⠀
Have a great mentor ? Comment and tag below your Mentor and their expertise! ⠀

I am super grateful for the people in my life that have kept me accountable, that have encouraged me, that have allowed me to grow out of discomfort and never judge me for periods in my life where I felt like I was running into a brick wall.
It’s always important to surround yourself with people in your life that will keep it real, 100% of the time. I do not just surround myself with these people, but I have made it a point to eliminate the “yes“ people in my life. I want someone in my life that pushes me to grow and support to me, and gives me a different perspectives; that can be different than my own.
We don’t always have to agree, but we know it comes from a place of respect.
On this Monday, make sure to THANK the people in your life that encourage you to grow. They may not always hear it, you may not always say it, but it is important to acknowledge the role they play in your life.
Your people help YOU create AHA moments!

Let's be real for a moment. Life is difficult, it's your job to present it and react to the the any way you want.
I would be lying if I said that everything was perfect for me right now.
I don't speak much of my personal life here, not because I can't or don't want to but just because as a leader it is my job to put forth the best example for you.
However, I would then go against my own rule of authenticity- if I didn't, so here I am, I am taking this moment to able to allow you to see that I too, struggle.
I have high function anxiety, I'm someone who also makes lists because it calms me down to see everything in an order or specific set of tasks. I need to plan, I hate disorder and chaos. I even have contingency plans- always.
There are many things I am facing right now, and everything is exacerbated due to COVID and timing.
I had a rough day yesterday.
Today we RESET and try again.

It's vision that gets you to the next level, its passion that keeps you going, it's drive that encourages you to surpass obstacles, and its the company that you keep that helps you match the vibe you need to do it all.⠀
⠀
The people who surround you are just as important as your own mindset.⠀
⠀
People around you reflect what you see of yourself and what you need to have - that means, you shouldn't always have people who are "YES" men on your side, you should have a solid mix of people who understand your strengths and weaknesses and don't allow you to use your "drive" as a tunnel. ⠀
⠀
Surround yourself with those that will challenge you in a good way - this will keep you grounded vs. on the 'it's all about me' train. People who have visions and ideas in your group also help you think bigger than what you just see in the long run. ⠀
⠀
They become your tribe that supports you and helps you achieve all your goals and allow you to move more forward with things you don't always think is possible.⠀
⠀
⠀
Who are the people you surround yourself with? ⠀
Thank them down below.⠀

IT'S MONDAY!!!⠀
⠀
TIME FOR SOME ⠀
⠀
Sports is something I enjoy to watch and used to play in my free time. I love Hockey, Football, Baseball and my love for Basketball comes and goes (I'm an old school MJ Fan, #23 for life).⠀
⠀
If you need help, get a mentor - they will be your professional coach.⠀
Don't get the mentor that just assigns you courses and never follows up - get a mentor that is active and participates in YOUR success. ⠀
⠀
COACH your mindset ⠀
⠀
- coaching or being coached isn't a bad thing, its dedicated feedback to your professional and personal growth⠀
- you won't always agree wth your coach, but thats because they see the whole game, you are seeing what is infront of you - it's okay to disagree⠀
- adapt yourself to that feedback and you'll start to see yourself winning.⠀
- get past your emotional attachment to what you see and listen to a coaches objective perspective.⠀
- practice⠀
- practiice⠀
- coach yourself⠀
- practice⠀
⠀
Sometimes we all need help seeing that bigger picture, you won't always see what others see - thats the beauty of having someone on the outside.⠀
⠀
How will you COACH your mindset so that you can CHANGE the game?⠀
⠀

I was asked once what makes a great leader. Honestly at the time, I said you were born with it.⠀
⠀
We romanticize leadership and what makes great leadership - the best leaders in the industry will tell you that it takes time and its constant learning.⠀
⠀
The best leaders who exemplify solid leadership have the ability to do the following:⠀
⠀
Actively listen to their team⠀
- this allows them to really engage and purposely relate to team members while they are having a conversation. this in turn will also allow them to build rapport easily. ⠀
⠀
Build a Culture around communication⠀
- this will encourage transparency, a culture of feedback and growth, allow a safe place for frustrations, but encourage collaboration without feeling pressure to only play office politics.⠀
⠀
Eliminate the Noise⠀
- a Leader is someone who can cut the white noise around their team and help them focus. Its simply put as supporting them while ensuring outside factors do NOT affect performance. ⠀
⠀
Understand strengths ⠀
- This allows a team to fully be immersed and know who they can speak to or turn to on their team to help them or encourage them.⠀
- This especially helps from a developmental perspective.⠀
⠀
Eliminate the toxic behaviours in office competition⠀
- This allows people to not only thrive in a team environment, but take away the gossip and noise. ⠀
⠀
Create development plans⠀
- Actually have developmental plans in place that helps your team achieve their goals, know where they stand, and have a clear path to their next marker point. This will also hold you as a leader accountable for follow up.⠀
⠀
Good leadership takes work, you can be laissez-faire, but the best leaders are active participants - no matter how busy.⠀

⠀
Prepare your day⠀
Prepare your mindset ⠀
Create routine admist the Chaos.⠀
⠀
Know that you can control how your day is by simply writing your routine or 'MUST HAVE COMPLETED' so you can feel accomplished.⠀
⠀
Everyone's routines are different. Everyone's chaos is different.⠀
⠀
I truly have multple ways to engage my day, week, month - I have a planner, a mini planner, notes (physical and digital), but I also write things down.⠀
⠀
I'm also an avid doodler - some of my pages of notes will have doodles, drawing, sketches, colours and more - but these are ways my brain stays active. ⠀
⠀
How do you prepare for your day?⠀

Mistakes.⠀⠀
Have you made any in your career? ⠀⠀
Makes us feel like we failed, like maybe we should've known better as we get to know what our career path.⠀⠀
⠀⠀
Linear Paths.⠀⠀
Do they happen? Sure. Are they always the case? No.⠀⠀
⠀⠀
A few years ago, someone close to me discussed they wanted a change in career; they wanted something that was new and involved their passions, but they didn't want to fail.⠀⠀
When I asked why they thought failure was such a defining moment - they responded with "I don't want to make mistakes in my career, it can be a set back". They mentioned how successful was. what I accomplished and all the things they wanted to do as well that helped them achieve their goals - but their current work space wasn't where that was going to happen.⠀⠀
⠀⠀
I told them that in my life - I had made my share of mistakes, trying new things, new avenues, and somethings worked out well - while others didn't pan out. ⠀⠀
⠀⠀
That was okay, and I told them that because you made a mistake or failed once in a while - only made the reward that much sweeter.⠀⠀
⠀⠀
In the same respect - if you didn't try new things, you didn't do something outside of your comfort zone - how do you know if you're going to be good at it or not?⠀⠀
⠀⠀
We planned their roadmap a little, we worked on what they wanted to achieve, how they would get there - and mostly, I encouraged them to Manifest their dream.⠀⠀
⠀⠀
3 years later their dream has come true - and they have manifested everything we spoke about one summer in 2017. This win belongs to them, their successes belong to them, their trial belongs to them. Little to no mistakes while fighting for this dream.⠀⠀
⠀⠀
It wasn't a mistake - it was something new - and the pay off was huge.⠀⠀
⠀⠀
Try somthing new.⠀⠀
Make mistakes⠀⠀
Fail sometimes⠀⠀
Succeed sometimes⠀⠀
⠀⠀
Just enjoy the new journey.⠀⠀
⠀⠀

Food for thought Friday. Who inspires you?
31/08/2020
Pass the coffee! It's Monday! ⠀
⠀
Are you in need of some "Monday Motivation"? Me too.⠀
⠀
What inspires you to push through the day? Especially when it is one you don't want to get up for and do not feel really motivated?⠀
⠀
If mental toughness is ever needed; it is needed on Monday's! You can take the bull by the horn and get up! I know you are tired, you might feel uninspired, you may be exhausted - lack of sleep or insomnia- but don't fall into the trap !⠀
⠀
Get up! ☀️ ⠀
⠀
Grab your morning beverage of choice, mine is coffee ☕️ ⠀
Take a shower and add a little self care.⠀
⠀
Plan three things you need to do today to feel accomplished ✅⠀
⠀
-- MAKE SURE YOU MAKE TIME TO DO THEM- accountability is key! 🔑 ⠀
⠀
And do something good for someone else today, they might feel just as uninspired as you. ⠀
⠀
It's a new week! We have a lot to do! ⠀
⠀
Comment below any tips you have to motivate yourself on a Monday !⠀

We made it! It's Friday! Sit back and relax. Take some time off to recoup from the week.

Why AHA moments?
Well it is my Leadership legacy.
What is yours?
26/08/2020
Know your worth. ⠀
⠀
There will be many people who will cheer you on, who understand and value the impact that you make on a team and organization. Those are amazing people; lift them up and never forget to refurn the favour. ⠀
⠀
Then you will come across some people in your life who want to treat you poorly, make it seem like you are the wrong person for the job, underestimate your abilities and more. It happens to everyone; but it is more ammo to prove them wrong.⠀
⠀
Don't under value yourself because of someone else's opinion. Prove them wrong and show them who YOU are.⠀
⠀
Don't underestimate the power of YOU. ⠀
⠀
⠀
24/08/2020
Success is measured by many with how much money you make, how many followers, likes, double taps, etc. but no one talks about the sustainability of success the same way.⠀
⠀
I want to be successful because I am creating success for myself as well as maintaining it, not just for today but for the future. ⠀
⠀
Leadership and careers aren't just for the glory of now- if that's the case - when the "now" fades and you're left with something else- less shiny, what then determines your success?⠀
⠀
⠀
Create and push for the long term, the short term is just that- short.⠀
⠀
What is the legacy you are going to leave behind? How and what will people⠀
Know you by?⠀
⠀
Create your moment. ⠀
Make it count. ⠀
Make it last.⠀
⠀
⠀
22/08/2020
Don't forget to rest up. Take this as a sign that it's okay to shut off your laptops, disengage a little bit, and recoup for yourself.
Also, laugh.
This was fun to film.

A little non leadership but aelf love quote for Friday! 💜⠀
⠀
We are sitting in uncertain times currently, there is a lot of chaos in the world, a lot of unknown pieces as well as other emotions and feelings that could bring one down. ⠀
⠀
As a gentle reminder to yourself, happiness is all around you. You don't have to look very far to find it, but know that it is around you - if you just take a moment to see.⠀
⠀
It's just as important to fill your own cup, and not just run on empty. Don't chase happiness, let it find you in all the simple joys you enjoy.⠀
⠀
Happy Friday ⠀
⠀

Remember coaching is NOT an event!!⠀
⠀
It happens everyday, whether it is small celebrations or feedback to planned personal time, one on one!⠀
⠀
Don't forget to practice cosching yoirself! The more you remember to ask: ⠀
⠀
➡️ How did that go/ how did you think you did ?⠀
➡️ What do you think you could've done better will you do next time?⠀
➡️ When will I see that/ do you need anythung from me?⠀
⠀
The more you incorporate this verbiage in your everyday conversation, the less awkward it becomes- then you start to create a known habit & set expectations with everyone. ⠀
⠀
This becomes the culture you create! ⠀
⠀
Just remember to practice!⠀
⠀

There are a few things we do as humans. We grow, evolve, move forward, and nurture things.⠀
⠀
Your abilities and capabilities don't stop, they evolve to get better. You nurture yourself, the path, your growth, and your career too. ⠀
⠀
When you create a plan or development plan, you are consciously nurturing your career. Just because you hit a snag or don't hit the targets at the exact point you thought you would, doesn't mean you failed. It just means it needs a little more nurturing. We must adapt, repurpose, and create new targets. We make sure we hold ourselves accountable. ⠀
⠀
During this time of nurturing, we hone our craft, learn new skills, self reflect, ask for help, and many more.⠀
⠀
Don't forget that the good things you have done and accomplished are still there.⠀
⠀
Your leadership matters! ⠀
⠀

Did you know I was a theatre kid? ⠀
I was someone who sang and danced, memorized choreography up until highschool. ⠀
⠀
I went for an audition; and was so intimidated, I chickened out. I ended up not going and never went back. ⠀
⠀
I regret never going back.⠀
⠀
As I got older, I realized that my regret is what has continued to fuel me to push myself for more. I learned to give myself permission for greatness.⠀
⠀
Never stop yourself from going for it. Try! Do! Fail? It's OKAY! Just KEEP GOING!⠀
⠀
Allow yourself to grow into greatness!⠀

Creating the AHA Moment
It was about 18 years ago where I was faced with the question of “what do you want to do in life?” and it was just that question that made me nervous. I was in University, trying to figure out if the Medical School path really was where I wanted to go, or if I could do something else.
Turned out to be the latter, even though a part of me misses the fact that I never completed that program.
Instead I cultivated a career around creating AHA moments for people. Mico minutes of time where they felt confident in who they were, what they learned, their abilities - they gained confidence and pride. I found my calling and had amazing mentors along the way.
Ironically for a woman who HATED public speaking, I was good at it. Speaking at conferences, spa symposiums, and other opportunities. I took it all in, appeciated the mentors, the teachers, the guru’s along the way who wanted to make learning fun and experiencial. Dare I say it, create an AHA moment for me.
In my 17 years of Corporate Training, Field Training, Big/Small box business development - I realized it was working with the people one on one that made me the happiest. I wanted to bring them the same training I was given and taught.
My goal is to bring the same trainings you see at a Mid-Senior level to everyone, to allow everyone to get the same soundbytes that aren’t always offered to those in management.
It starts slow, with videos (I’m still new to the video game), and questions - but we dive deep into it. We started with our first series of Thoughtful Leadership - a way to get you to combine Servant Leadership principles with your own leadership - creating a legacy for yourself.
We eventually will move to other topics like situational leadership, quiet leadership, review of fierce conversations, to managing people with high EQ. We will try steer the conversation about self discovery and your journey in leadership -whether you are brand new or a veteran just trying to continue learning. My goal is to create this as a learning platform and a library that you can always come back to.
I started this page because I missed working with people and giving them training and support, creating development plans for their career path, and coaching. Many companies preach about training but only stick you infront of a computer - never to really follow up on what you learned. Everyone is expected to be self sufficient in a world that needs visual, auditory and tactile learning.
So if you want to create a new career path, enhance your career path, or just increase your leadership learning. Please give us a like and subscribe, follow me on Instagram (soundbyteswithEM) and come into the conversation!
Looking forward to creating your AHA Moment with you!
