Rediscovered Treasures: The Remastered 8mm Film from 1970s Iraq
For full episode in 4K click here: bit.ly/YouTube-Iraq-1973
This time we're going on an adventure to Iraq circa 1973. The film wasn't exactly in good shape. Lots of scratches, loss of color and, what a shame, part of the film was shot with poor focus. I'm awaiting a new better scan camera, I'll definitely try to scan this film again then. There are many architectural and historical treasures in these frames, some of which don't exist anymore.

In the first part there is a glimpse of the preparations for D-Day. The exercises were overseen by Bernard Montgomery, Dwight D. Eisenhower and Marshal of the Royal Air Force Arthur William Tedder, 1st Baron Tedder.

In the first segment, we visit the crowded Prague of 1948. The streets are so full because it was the first day of the all-Sokol gathering (a mass gymnastics demonstration) after World War II, and also the last gathering organized by Sokol before 1989. In 1948, the Communist takeover occurred in Czechoslovakia, and the Czech gymnastics organization Sokol was banned.
In the second segment, we visit the Bohemian Paradise, specifically the town of Turnov and its surroundings. This is an area that is notable for its concentration of natural and historical landmarks.
In 2005, the Bohemian Paradise was included in the UNESCO Global Geoparks Network.

This film was probably recorded in the early 1950s. Looks like good old friends enjoying the pleasant Florida weather. They take us to visit the Hialeah Park Track, a horse race where we see a bunch of flamingos and the last stop is a dog race.
The Hialeah Park Race Track is one of the oldest existing recreational facilities in southern Florida. Originally opened in 1922. The park became so famous for its flamingo flocks that it has been officially designated a sanctuary for the American Flamingo by the Audubon Society.

1970’s Czechoslovak Airlines
Founded in 1923, ČSA was the first airline ✈️ in Czechoslovakia. It initially only operated domestic services, but by 1930 was operating international flights to Yugoslavia. In the late 1960s, ČSA began using Soviet-built aircraft for its extensive European and intercontinental services. This included the long-range Ilyushin Il-18D turboprop, which allowed ČSA to establish transatlantic routes to Montreal, New York City, and Havana.

1947 Czech Americans - 16 mm restored footage
This group of happy folks were probably part of 1947 Sokol Slet 🤸 in Chicago’s Soldier Field from Sokol Fresno and resting after this big sporting event.
The Sokol movement is an all-age gymnastics organization first founded in Prague in the Czech region of Austria-Hungary in 1862.
The first documented case of the entry of Czechs to the North American shores is of Joachim Gans of Prague, who came to Roanoke, North Carolina in 1585 with an expedition of explorers organized by Sir Walter Raleigh (1552–1618).

According to the 2000 US census, there are 1,262,527 Americans of full or partial Czech descent, in addition to 441,403 persons who list their ancestry as Czechoslovak. Historical information about Czechs in America is available thanks to people such as Mila Rechcigl.

Any one from Australia recognize the streets and barracks?
8 mm scan from the year 1965. Lovely family enjoying time in the garden with a dog. Few shots of the streets, probably suburban Melbourne, army barracks and army truck. Something about the guy in the blue, I guess it is the father. His smile is pure happiness.

A unique insight into a family reunion at grandparents house in the year 1935. See how people passed the time almost 90 years ago, a pigeon instead of a cat, roasting sausages and a bit of gymnastics at the end.
