Nana Addo breaks ground for construction of Pan African Heritage World Museum

A sod-cutting ceremony has been held for the construction of The Pan African Heritage World museum, which is said to be the biggest in Africa.

The Pan African Heritage World Museum, when completed, according to the President, will provide a resting place for all the looted artefacts housed in foreign museums in Europe and elsewhere.

“The museum is certainly an innovative pan-Africanism project and the government is accordingly supporting its development. The precise state of the support government will provide is the subject of ongoing discussions between the executive council and the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, and the results will be fully publicized.”

“I am glad that when completed, this project will provide education in the museum’s gallery for visitors to learn more about the history, cultures, indigenous ideals of our ancestors who demonstrated their resolve to protect our environment,” the President said.

Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony, Akufo-Addo urged locals in the area not to be an impediment to the construction of the museum.

“I urge you, residents of the area and those within this immediate catchment area to be mindful of the fact that you will be the ultimate beneficiaries of this project, so please, do not put any impediments in the way of investors or contractors. There should be a cordial relationship among you,” he added.

The museum, which will be the biggest in Africa, was the idea of Kojo Yankah, past President of the Pan-African Historical Theatre Festival (PANAFEST) and founder of the African University College of Communications.

The design of the Museum is shaped as a Horn which is synonymous with a trumpet which is a musical instrument often used in religious ceremonies.

It is expected to be completed in July 2023.

Black Panther 2 release date and official title revealed

The official title and release date for the highly-anticipated “Black Panther” sequel were revealed Monday in a megatrailer celebrating Marvel movies.

The sequel to the 2018 film starring the late Chadwick Boseman is set to be released July 8, 2022, and is titled “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.”

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige announced in December that the film would not recast Boseman’s T’Challa character in its next installment.

Boseman died last August at age 43 after a private battle with colon cancer.

"Chadwick Boseman was an immensely talented actor and an inspirational individual who affected all of our lives,” Feige said at the time. “His portrayal of T’Challa the Black Panther is iconic and transcends any iteration of the character in any other medium from Marvel’s past. It’s for that reason we will not recast the character.”

Lupita Nyong’o (Nakia), Danai Gurira (Okoye), Letitia Wright (Shuri), Winston Duke (M’Baku) and Daniel Kaluuya (W’Kabi) are expected to return.

The three-minute long trailer also gave a first look at Chloé Zhao’s “Eternals,” arriving Nov. 5 and revealed the title of Brie Larson’s “Captain Marvel” sequel, “The Marvels,” arriving Nov. 11, 2022.

The end of the trailer featured the official titles and release dates for other upcoming Marvel movies including “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” (Sept. 3) and “Thor: Love and Thunder” (May 6, 2022).

GES postpones reopening date of SHS 1 students

The Ghana Education Service has postponed the reopening of first-year Senior High School students to Thursday, March 18 through to Sunday, March 21.

In a press release signed by the Deputy Director-General, the Service said the action is to give students who have had issues with self-placement time to complete the process.

Also, others who have not completed their school’s admission process have been encouraged to use the extension to complete the process.

The Service added that the rescheduling will also help parents have adequate time to prepare their kids for school as well as give schools additional time needed to prepare to welcome them.

“Management had decided that the reopening of schools for first-year students should be rescheduled for Thursday, March 18 through to Sunday March 21, 2021.”

“The spread out period is to enable the schools to structure the admission process in such a way that not too many students get crowded at the school at one particular point in time.”

Meanwhile, academic work will begin on Monday, March 22, in all schools.

GES has also urged parents to ensure that their children leave home with adequate nose masks to protect themselves amid Covid-19, while management of schools has also been tasked to ensure strict adherence to Covid-19 protocols.

Exclusive: Meet the Sunnyside twin sisters who turned trash into cash

- Thandiwe and Thandeka Mzukwa found fortune in someone's else's rubbish and turned your trash into their cash - The twin sisters from Sunnyside moved from a small rural village in the Eastern Cape to look for jobs, but were unsuccessful - They decided to take matter into their own hands and now make a good living collecting waste.

Thandiwe and Thandeka Mzukwa are Sunnyside's trashy twin sisters, but not that kind of trashy. These two innovative sisters are turning thrash into money. Their inspiration came after many unsuccessful years of looking for employment.

Thandiwe and Thandeka, 34, have since purchased a Chana bakkie, H1 Truck and Toyota Yaris hatchback with the money they made from recycling. The also pay rent for their flat in the notorious street, Gerrardmoerdyk. The Mzukwa twin sisters, who grew up in the rural village of Nqamakwe in Eastern Cape, both completed their distance learning qualifications throguh Unisa, also from money they made from their recycling.

Thandiwe completed her Bsc Degree in Agricultural Management, majoring in plant and animal production, in 2016. Thandeka completed her Bcom degree in Business Management. They came to Gauteng some years ago after passing their matric as fortune hunters looking for greener pastures. The twins completed their N6 diploma in electrical engineering with Ekhuruleni West College while staying with their mother in Thokoza township situated in the East Rand. Their love for recycling developed in 2010 when they were in Pretoria looking for jobs. They submitted several applications without any success.

The sisters decided to take their fate in their own hands and spent their time sorting waste material for recycling. Thandiwe's advice to the youth is to look further than old traditional employment for opportunities to better their lives. She said youngsters should create jobs opportunities as this is a generation of job creators: "We started to ask so many questions and became inquisitive, like a child, when we saw people pulling trolleys up and down in town. At the time we didn't have money to buy food for lunch as we were job hunters. We were waiting to take an evening train back home."

Thandiwe explained that the following week, they also tried their luck and collected waste to recycle for money to buy food while they continued looking for work. In an exclsuive interview with YEN.com.gh, Thandiwe said their love for recycling blossomed and now they are also taking care of their brother's daughter after he died in 2018.

Thandiwe said: "The first step we took was deciding to be waste pickers and we continued to work as waste collectors to generate income."

Thandiwe and Thandeka wake up early to collect trash to recycle for money. Image: Thomo Nkgadima Source: Original Their biggest challenge is a place to work in, such as a warehouse, as well as machinery to compress their products and a big truck with a crane to transport their waste. They dream and wish to create many jobs for the unemployed youth of South Africa.

After collecting the waste, they sort and separate it. "It is a lot of hard work," Thandiwe added, saying it's not for sissies. "If you don't want to get your hands dirty, this is not for you. You can't make it here. "The more waste you have the more money you generate," Thandeka said, adding "what we like about this business is that during bad or good times people tend to consume more and we also generate more money." Thandeka said they are worried about their lack of a social life though. The sisters purchased cars after using a trolley to transport their waste to town took a physical toll on both of them.

Thandiwe and Thandeka dig through potentially toxic materials and expose themselves to germs and bacteria while digging through dustbins. This poses a huge risk to both, but for these twins, the reward outweighs the risk.

Thandeka said with the current discourse around climate change and sustainability there is a wealth of information as to why recycling is considered good for the environment and an alternative viable job. She concluded that collecting waste is their way of life but was not their obvious career of choice now they can provide for their families.
