Tom Stern
Nov. 24, 1932 - March 18, 2024
Farewell to our friend, Tom. He passed away peacefully yesterday at the age of 91. His wife, Nancy, really needs help paying for hospice and medical expenses. I know times are tough, but if you can spare anything, it would greatly help her. If a few of you just sent $1 it could make a big difference in her life. Please send donations directly on Venmo @Nancy-Fisher-17 (More info from his family in the comments)
I’ve known Tom since I was 11 years old. He was truly one of a kind. It’s so hard to believe he’s actually gone. Tom was many things to many people. He was a surfer, a baseball player, an actor, and a filmmaker, but I will always think of him as a good friend. He always believed in me when no one else did, even if I didn’t believe in myself. Our podcast wouldn’t even exist without Tom. In 2005, I approached him about making a documentary, but he shot me down. I approached him again about doing a podcast on his life during the Covid-19 pandemic, and since he was bored and trapped at home, he finally gave in to the idea. I’m so thankful and proud to have captured all that footage of Tom talking about his life and career in Hollywood. We’ll do all we can to keep his legacy alive for fans and future film enthusiasts that discover his work. After we finished our last project with Tom, he gave me a courtesy call to thank me. During that conversation he told me he loved me, which was something he’d never said before. I told him I loved him too and thanked him for all the time he’d spent with me over the years. That was the last time we spoke. I regret not seeing him or speaking with him again, but at least I have that moment to carry with me. I’ll miss you, my friend. You may be gone, but you will never be forgotten. Thank you for everything. 🙏💕

Last Friday we were about to release our first docucast with director, Jesse V. Johnson, when we got word that Steven Lambert passed away. We decided to put Jesse's project on hold for another week to properly pay tribute to Steve. Jesse and Steve were both friends and colleagues going back to "Total Recall." Steven also worked many times for Jesse's uncle, stunt coordinator, Vic Armstrong. Jesse V. Johnson is on production overseas and sent this message about Steven Lambert.
"I liked Steve and had worked with him a few times over the years, "Galaxy Quest," most notably. He was always, always incredibly respectful and lovely. It is very sad when the good ones pass."

I can’t believe you’re really gone, Steven. It’s been so hard for me to wrap my head around this and find a way to properly articulate what you mean to me and Dustin. First and foremost, we truly thought of you as our friend, not simply a guest on one of our little productions. We know we are only “fan friends,” but you never made us feel that way. The first time we spoke on the phone in 2020, we instantly hit it off like we’d been friends for years. I still remember that call and how thrilling and surreal it was to be on the phone laughing for 90 minutes like a teenager with someone I had admired since childhood. You had a way of making people feel so special and important. You were always so kind and gracious. You always treated us as peers, even though we weren’t. As with our dear friend, Sam Firstenberg, you always treated me as a filmmaker rather than a podcaster, and I’ll always love you both so much for that.
We were the first podcast you ever did. We weren’t the first podcast to release one, but we were the first podcast to record one with you, and it was such an honor and privilege for us. While I was doing postproduction on our first project with you, I remember you called me because you had the opportunity to do a very big podcast with the potential to get tens of thousands of eyes on your book. You wanted to make sure it was okay with me because you felt like you were betraying us by going on another show to promote. It was like you were asking my permission?! Lol! Of course, I was fine with it, but that's just the kind of guy you were. You were always loyal to your friends, and you had integrity to spare, or as you'd call it… you were, "old school."
The last time we spoke you were so excited to come out of retirement and go to Israel to make a new film. I was so happy for you. It seemed like everything was going so well, and it’s difficult to accept this now. It all just seems like a horrible nightmare. We feel truly fortunate an
Back in the day before "Retrofiend Radio," I used to make simple beats, and Dustin would freestyle over them about old movies and weird random sh*t. 🤣😂🤣 We always imagined it as a Hip Hop "Spinal Tap." He went by "Switchblade Killington" (SBK), and I was evil record producer/DJ, "Eddie Arcadian" of "Vowel Movement Records." It was totally ridiculous, but a helluva a lot of fun too! Been going down memory lane listening to some of the tracks from the archives. I sampled the "Phantasm" theme for this one, and Dustin is really shot out of a cannon! If SBK ever makes parole, we might have to get the band back together! 🤣😂 🍻 #flashbackfriday #neverforget
Happy Birthday to the late great Judo Gene LeBell 🎂💕 He would've been 90 years old today. 💥👊💥 Rest in Peace
