Let's install some brakes! 🚗🪛
After bending and placing the new brake lines, we had to flush them with brake fluid.
This turned out to be a bigger task than we imagined, as the bubbles kept coming even after purging the lines for what felt like ages. But with much patience and perseverance, we finally got the brakes to work, bubble-free! 🫧

Theft-proofing our rover! 
It's a sad but hard truth: Your campervan isn't just precious to you; it might also attract thieves. The last thing you want is to put in all those hours off work just for your camper to be stolen.   
That's why we decided to put in these theft-proofing plates. They will ensure our defender's side doors can't be removed, even when someone tries to unscrew them from the outside. Some extra peace of mind for us and a subtle 'f*ck you' for the robbers: win-win! 

Here's how🔽
📸 II: unscrew the bolts on the door hinge 
📸 III: place the bombproof hinge guards on the inside, making sure to point the yellow sticker to the front so the red arrows are pointing forward 
📸 IV: with the door closed, the plate is barely visible 
📸 V: now the door cannot be removed, even when someone removes the bolts on the bulkhead 

⚠️Be careful to never place your fingers on the security plate. The stickers aren't there for decoration; you might lose your finger if the door were too close.

Let's install the side doors of our Land Rover together!

Here's how🔽
📸 1: install the door handle and lock barrel. 
 📸 2: look at that fresh lock! 
 📸 3: adjust the door to fit correctly, ensuring the doorstriker and lock work fine. If not, the door can be closed but might not open again due to bad alignment. 
 📸 4: Install various window seals. If the old ones have cracks or have lost flexibility, replace them to keep water and wind out of your car.  
 📸 5: install window lever mechanism.  
 📸 6: connect the door lock rods.  
 📸 7: install the door card.

Every small win is a victory! 🎉
We recently had to replace the rear door of our Land Rover, as it had fallen victim to the rust fairies. After a fresh coat of paint and some window blinding, it was time to reattach the door. To our surprise, the rear door locked perfectly on the first try. If you own an old Land Rover, you'll surely know this is a rarity!

At first, we tried to recycle the old back door from the Landy. Still, upon further inspection, the rust fairies had already claimed it as their own, and even Jarits' welding capacities couldn't save it. So, it was time for the old backdoor to retire and join his brothers in the Land Rover afterlife. 

Thanks to our trusted supplier, , we didn't experience too much of a delay in our camper build process. The new door was delivered to us within days despite being outside the UK!

After covering the window with cardboard and paint tape, the new door was ready for a fresh layer of white paint. Now, it's time to let the paint dry so we can start blinding the window.

💡TIP: if you get some paint on the window, a glass scraper can help remove it without scratching your windows. We've found this to be a lifesaver in our DIY projects. You can find one via the link in our bio under 'Product Tips.'

Safety First!

With a whopping 400,000 km on the clock, our Landy desperately needed some TLC. We've replaced the old, battered bearings with new, higher-quality ones and given them a fresh coat of grease.
The wheel hub also got some attention, with broken bolts being replaced. Our Landy is now one step closer to being adventure-ready for our trip to Poland!

Where back! Have you missed us? ‘Cause we’ve certainly missed you! 

The last few weeks have been pretty hectic since Amber officially moved into the garage, uhm, we mean, house! 

Though it has been quiet here for a while, we can’t wait to share the latest adjustments we’ve made to our Land Rover Defender; baby is finally coming back together! I'm not going to lie; it costs us some blood, sweat, and...money (if you count the amount Jarits contributed to the swear jar😉) 

Here are some pics of the massive amount of stuff that had to be installed to prepare our Landy for his first adventure on (and off) the road!

If I say Dubai, your thoughts probably wander to beaches, clubs, and an extravagant lifestyle, but during our visit, we were on a mission to find some remains of the old culture that used to run through the streets of this once-small fishing village.

Regrettably, these days, the closest you'll get to culture in Dubai is the Old Town called Al Fahidi, which is even less authentic than the newest Land Rover.

It was time to hit the road! Our search brought us to Al Ain, Abu Dhabi, about a 1,5h drive from Dubai. We mainly came for the Al Jahili Fort. While this stunning building may look centuries old, it was constructed only 133 years ago, in 1891. It served as protection for the palm farmers of the Al Jahili oasis. Nowadays, it's used for art exhibitions. The entrance to the fort is free, and there's a pretty park surrounding the area, which makes for a perfect picnic spot. The crazy cat lady in me also didn't leave disappointed because this park was filled with stray CATS!

So, after all, there is some culture to be found in the UAE, but you will have to look for it! 🇦🇪

Taking a small detour almost always pays off! We chose to follow the smaller tracks on our way back to Dubai after visiting the Empty Quarter and ran into this vintage beauty — the perfect stop for our lunch break. Of course, we had to immortalize it on our camera lens, so please enjoy the pics of our little photoshoot.

As soon as we touched down in the UAE, our hearts were set on one thing – a road trip to the majestic Moreeb Dune. Standing tall at 300m, it proudly claims the title of the tallest dune in the Emirates. 🇦🇪

Looking like Aladdin’s cave of wonders could be hiding behind every dune, our first encounter with the Empty Quarter felt truly magical!✨

The roads leading there, impeccably maintained as is typical in the UAE, paved the way for a smooth journey. Yet, true to its name, the Empty Quarter didn’t offer many opportunities to refuel on gas or other amenities. So, ensure to fuel up and stock up on water and snacks before embarking on your desert adventure!🏜️🚐💨

Workshop shenanigans 👩‍🔧🛠️

Jarits has been busy welding the final pieces on the doors, and finetuning the electrical system, resulting in the tail lights working 💡

And Amber has earned a new nickname 'dustie', after finishing the last bit of sanding of the bodywork. The wings and doors are ready to receive a brand new coat of paint.
