Rabiatu is determined to go to school and become a doctor to save lives. Her dream is cut short as she's to marry a sixty year old man to save the family from disgrace.
Godfred Kojo Croffies movie, Rabiatu begins with Rabbi studying to face her final examination while leaving no stone unturned, but in other developments, men are seen flooding the home of Kassim (Rasheed Issahak) and Amina (Pearl Abban), Rabiatus father to ask her hand in marriage. If you pay close attention to details in the movie, you will still not quickly understand why and how Khalifa (Richmond Serfourh Frimpong), the brother insists “Remember our bargain. I won't lose her to another man. An agreement is an agreement! I'm bent on taking her now. Nothing less”. This is why every detail in the film is important.
Rabiatu is about Rabbi (Sadia Ali) a thirteen (13) year old girl going to fourteen (14), needy but very brilliant final Senior High School student who is said to be betrothed to an old man, Alhaji Bukari (Mohammed Mufta'u Chombey) who already is married to two (2) wives with his youngest child even older than Rabiatu.
Immediately after the traditional rites, Rabbi elopes to Kumasi as the Abokyi Ango comes to take her away. She finds work to help continue her education while she sleeps in front of stores outside without proper place of abode. She I r***d on one such nights and her world comes crumpling down on her.
Rabbi gets pregnant, toils through till labor; and at child delivery, she gives birth to a set of twins at night under trees. Now, we see her abandoned by her husband and her own father and overly discriminated by the society. She hopes from one menial job to the other to take care of the twins while self teaching them. As Rabbi grows with the boys (Peter Nana Benyin Jnr. and Peter Nana Benyin Snr.); a Good Samaritan (Sylvia Achiaa) comes into the picture to help them financially.
For the most part, Rabiatu is excellently made except for slight hitches of sound due to uncontrollable sound at the location. The script, though a true reflection of the story, had some scenes not shot with some edited scenes also deleted to actualize the desired story, for better comprehension.
