KUALA LUMPUR: Members of the public are urged to comply with the movement control order (MCO) and be truthful when asked for the reason they are out in the streets.

Sentul OCPD Asst Comm S. Shanmugamoorthy said police manning roadblocks in the city had to play "cat and mouse" with the people who lied about their reasons when questioned at roadblocks.

"We discovered there are still those who are stubborn and try to lie to the authorities.

"In one case, the person handed out a letter supposedly showing that he worked for an essential service business but there was no phone number for his employer.

"Feeling suspicious, I checked with the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) and discovered that the company was not listed under essential services," he told reporters at Sri Murni police station on Tuesday (March 24).

ACP Shanmugamoorthy urged the people to be honest and not lie to security forces during the MCO.

"I encountered a man who claimed to want to buy food at a nearby restaurant but he could not name the restaurant.

"Complying with the MCO is for the benefit of all as we want to break the chain of the virus.

"Cooperate with us and stay at home," he said.

Given his area has a large number of foreigners, especially Myanmar nationals, ACP Shanmugamoorthy said he recorded a message reminding people to stay home in the Myanmar language.

"The recording is played via loud hailers in areas with large numbers of foreigners.

"I hope the foreigners comply with the MCO," he added.
