October is domestic violence awareness month. In 2022, I interviewed Tim Bezilli who is a licensed professional counselor and a licensed minister. If you are a pastor, you need to listen to this interview on how to handle situations concerning church members in your church who has experienced domestic violence and who told you they were being abused. Domestic violence is not just physical abuse, but also includes financial abuse, spiritual abuse, emotional abuse, and sexual abuse/assault.

A pastor, medical professional, therapist, teacher, and law enforcement are all mandated reporters. If a mandated reporter ignores the victim being abused, or suggests the victim go back to the spouse who is abusing the victim, then the mandated reporter can face legal action and possibly criminal charges by the judicial system for not intervening on behalf of the victim, especially when minors are in the home. Mandated reporters are not to investigate but are required to report no matter if they believe the victim or not. Most states require by law that a mandated reporter report the abuse within 24-hrs of learning that the victim is being abused.

When you are struggling, God knows.
When you have tears coming down your face, God knows.
When you have felt rejected, God knows.
When you have faced trials, God knows.
When you have felt abandoned, God knows.
When you feel an ache in your chest, God knows.
When you want to speak out about the pain but choose to remain silent, God knows.
When you have felt isolated, God knows.
When you have felt alone, God knows.
When you have felt suicidal, God knows.
When you have felt turmoil, God knows.
When you have felt broken, God knows.
When you have felt misunderstood, God knows.
When you have failed, God knows.
When you have messed up, God knows.
When you have felt forsaken, God knows.

God sees you.
God completely knows how you feel.
He is waiting for you to reach out to Him.
He is waiting for you to comfort you.
He is waiting to soothe the pain and the discomfort.
He is waiting to give you the peace that passes all understanding.
He is waiting for you to ask Him for what you need.
He is waiting for you to allow Him to prove just how much He loves you.
