High Court Judge, wife and 2 others Abdúct€d in Borno

A High Court Judge, Justice Haruna Mshelia, his wife, driver and others were abduct€d by the Boko Haram terrorists along Biu to Maiduguri road on Monday, June 24, 2024.

Sources said, Justice Mshelia who is working with Borno State High Court in Maiduguri was travelling in his vehicle, accompanied by his driver, a security es**rt and his wife.

As they approached a curve on the road between Buratai and Buni-gari, a group of armed men emerged from the bush and barricaded the road.
The judge’s vehicle attempted to manoeuvre its way to escape.
Unfortunately, in the chaos that ensued, Justice Mshelia’s vehicle was stopped by another team of insurgents, taken them hostage and later whisked them into Sambisa Forest.

Some angry youths today stormed the major streets of Akure, Ondo state capital to protest against alleged brutâlity by the operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

This is as a result of the recent EFCC raid at Akure night clubs where 127 persons were arrêsted.

EFCC Raids Two Night Clubs in Akure, Destroy Drinks Worth Millions of Naira

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has disclosed that its operatives raided two nightclubs in Akure, Ondo State, on Saturday.

While revealing that no fewer than 127 suspected internet fraudsters were arrested during the sting operation carried out in the wee hours of Saturday, the anti-graft agency stated that the operation was basically to effect the arrest of the suspects after receiving an intel.

The EFCC destroyed drinks worth millions of naira at Signatures Elixir club and Alba Royale Hotel/club and vandalized their facilities. The owners of the two clubs are youths, under 40.

Arsenal refuses to pay Napoli £110.8m for Victor Osimhen

Arsenal have informed Napoli they will not meet Victor Osimhen’s €130 million (£110.8m) release clause.

Gunners boss, Mikel Arteta, wants to add a striker to his squad after narrowly missing out on the Premier League title this season.

One of the names on his list is believed to be RB Leipzig striker, Benjamin Sesko, and is available due to his €65m (£55.2m) release clause.

Saudi Arabia arrêsts 7 Nigerian pilgrims over NUSUK hajj pilgrim cards

The authority of Saudi Arabia’s Kingdom has arrested seven Nigerian pilgrims performing this year’s holy pilgrimage in Makkah for failure to be in possession of NUSUK identity card

The seven Nigerian pilgrims from two states were said to have been arrested in front of their hotels on June 5 and 6 over the Nusuk ID cards, otherwise known as hajj permit.

In Saudi Arabia, not having Hajj permits, harbouring or aiding those without it attracts a SR10,000 fine, six months’ imprisonment, deportation and banning from Saudi Arabia for 10 years as penalty.

Bandits Attack Zamfara community, K!ll 4 Residents and 7 Policemen

Reports has confirmed that armed bandits have laid a terror attack on Magarya community in Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

It was gathered that eleven people, including seven mobile police officers and four civilians, were k!lled.

Three cars, including one belonging to the district head of Magarya, who is also the brother of the former speaker of the Zamfara State House of Assembly, Nasir Magarya, were also destroyed.

All the chairs in the parlour of the former speaker’s house were being set ablaze.
According to a resident of the area, Ahmad Umar, Magarya Model Primary School was set ablaze, and many people sustained various degrees of injuries.

Chelsea Ends their interest in Nigerian Super Eagle’s Striker

Chelsea have decided not to loan out Romelu Lukaku again and also ended their interest in Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, BBC reports.

Lukaku has spent the last two seasons away from Stamford Bridge at Inter Milan and Roma.

But the Blues are eager to recoup some of the £98million transfer fee they paid to sign the striker from Inter in 2021.

Some reports claimed Lukaku could move to Napoli, potentially in a swap with Osimhen.

But Chelsea have ended their interest in the Super Eagles striker.

2026FWCQ: Okoye's arrival to complete roll in Super Eagles’ camp

A challenging logistics planning for Friday’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying match between Nigeria and South Africa would finally be overcome by Wednesday evening, with the expected arrival of Super Eagles’ goalkeeper Maduka Okoye, the South African delegation and the match officials in the Akwa Ibom State capital.

Italy-based Okoye was the only invited player not in camp for lunch on Wednesday, but was already in Nigeria and booked for a flight out of the Federal Capital, Nigeria.

Majority of the match officials were also booked for flights out of the Federal Capital, with only referee assessor Ahmed Sayed Abou Elela from Egypt due to arrive in Nigeria on Thursday.

FG Suspends Import Duty on Food Items, Others to Ease Hardship

The Federal Government has suspended import duty and other tariffs on staple food items, raw materials, and inputs for manufacturing, agriculture, and pharmaceutical products for six months.

This move is aimed at reducing inflation and stabilizing prices.

According to an Executive Order signed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the suspension affects essential items like fertilizers, seedlings, chemicals, poultry feeds, flour, and grains. The order also grants a rebate on import duty by fixing the exchange rate at N800 to $1 for six months.

To enhance productivity, the government has directed the Nigeria Customs Service to fast-track the clearing of agricultural equipment, food items, and manufacturing inputs at ports, aiming to reduce clearance time by at least 50%.

The order encourages states and local government councils to adopt similar measures to boost productivity...

Ranches Commission bill will relocate Fulani herders to states of origin – Barau cries out

Deputy Senate President, Mr Jibrin Barau on Wednesday strongly opposed a bill for an act to establish the National Animal Husbandry and Ranches Commission, which was sponsored by Senator Titus Tartenger Zam, from Benue State.

Barau said the bill, if allowed and passed into law, was targeted at relocating Fulani herders wherever they are to their various states of origin, which will be absolutely difficult as they may not know where they came from.

The concerned lawmaker maintained that the bill was in breach of the Constitution of Nigeria, 1999 as amended, particularly in regard to choice of residence, insisting that nobody should be denied where they chose to live.
