Press freedom is an essential pillar of our democracy. However, according to The Foundation of Media Alternatives (2021), the Philippines remains one of the most dangerous places for journalists today. Freedom of the media is under assault. These attacks on press freedom are clear indicators of the erosion of democratic space in the Philippines; thus, the creation of "Vox Populi".
Vox Populi believes that freedom of press matter because a free press uncovers the truth. The press is the bridge between the people and powerful entities. If the press is not free but instead beholden to power, it simply serves as an extension of that power.
Why "Vox Populi"?
Vox Populi is a Latin phrase which means "the voice of the people", therefore, this advocacy page aspires to bring out the voices that we fail to hear into the light, the masses, and the public. We will strive to spread awareness regarding the reality of the press freedom state in the Philippines. And all these reflect on how we strongly advocate for a safer and uncontrolled press and media all around the country.
Up till the end, we, the people of this country, will continue to cry out, "Defend Press Freedom!" And we have the right to.
