Romans 5:3-5
More than that, werejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance,
and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not disappoint us, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.
Guys, it’s true.

Some wise words from a wise shepherd. On A Place Within, we strive to notice gospel realities in the “reality” of our day-to-day lives. We love the Truth and strive to continue loving it in unexpected or hidden places.

Ashlyn here: just over a year ago, I began a cross-country drive. One of my main goals for the trip— listen to a few audiobooks. It was a strange lineup, Percy Jackson, Lois Lowery’s THE GIVER, MAN’S SEARCH FOR MEANING by Victor E. Frankl, and 1984 by Orwell. That week of listening began my best-read year to date— over 30 books! Some of this years reads have become all-time favorites, others were forgettable. However, in order to get to the heart of our thoughts, we need to do things that actually provoke thought. This I’ve rediscovered a love of reading, and I think I’m the better for it. What are you reading this summer?

Ashlyn here-- this week on the podcast I got pretty real about what I’ve learned about God in the midst of heartbreak and (not to be dramatic here but) prolonged singleness. (Episode 71 - “The Cleveland Browns of Dating”) While recording that episode, I felt a lot of awe and wonder at God’s masterful plans. But most days I’m tempted to fall face-first into the lie that He has forgotten me and won’t keep the promises I believe He has made to my heart.
Those are the days when I need to put on my big-girl pants and pray with Genesis 15. I need to remember what God said to Abram, and old, childless, man. “‘Look up at the sky and count the stars—if indeed you can count them.’ Then he said to him, ‘So shall your offspring be.’” Oooff. So whoever didn’t want to read that today, but needed to, let’s rest in it together.

What’s at “the heart?”

We’re Ashlyn and Christina-- two twenty-something friends who have discovered that Jesus, who dwells in the heart, can be found there. We attempt to journey from the surface of our thoughts, feelings, and desires to the core. We invite you to share these journeys with us either because the look something like your own path, or to remind you that you’re on a path too. Don’t be afraid to dig, don’t be afraid to see the Lord where He dwells within.
