Hi Sue,
It’s been a while since we last spoke. Almost exactly 8 years ago, I called you asking if you had an older basset you might be needing a home for, and within a few days, I was driving up to get Webster.
This morning, he passed away surrounded by my whole family. I just wanted to let you know that he spent 8 wonderful, treat-filled years with me. He loved to take very, very slow walks—so slow in fact that I learned to read while walking him, a skill I honed from the woods of Massachusetts to the streets of Brooklyn, where we lived for 1.5 years.
Wherever we lived, Webster always charmed the pants—and sometimes even their lunch!—off all of our neighbors.
For the past several years, he has been living out his senior years with me at a lake in Massachusetts. He had been diagnosed with a tumor two years ago but beat all the odds with the vet continually referring to him as a medical miracle.
His tail was wagging up until the very last moment. Thank you for bringing such a wonderful, special boy into my life.
Hope you’re doing well and are surrounded with bassets,
Monet
