Our identity is in who we are as followers of Jesus, the risen Lord.

The great men of the Old Testament did what they did because they knew their God. The letter to the Hebrews challenges us to do much more than the men of old did, because we are now one with Jesus.

That has been his desire from the dawn of creation.

King David was a man after God's own heart, not because of his actions, but because he would always pour out his heart to God.

And that is what we need to do even today. God is not looking for fancy and meaningless words. He's searching for people who want to give everything to Him.

When the universe was formless and void the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.

He is the creative dunamis power of God. In the presence of the Holy Spirit, there is freedom. Freedom from everything that is not of God.

When we surrender to Him, we are transformed into new beings!

When we're set free by the Holy Spirit, we never see the walls that the world puts around us. We no longer belong to this world, and its systems. We are transformed like the apostles in the Book of Acts.

This is our new reality in Him. We are now in this world, but not of this world!

We can view God through two lenses, the lens of the world or that of the Holy Spirit.

2 Timothy 3:16 says that all scripture is given by inspiration of God.

With this in mind, it only makes sense to let the Author reveal Himself and His Word. Because only He can do it best!

From cover to cover the Bible tells the story of freedom in Christ.

Read Luke 4:17-21. It sums up Jesus' life mission.

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me,
Because He anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor.
He has sent Me to proclaim release to the captives,
And recovery of sight to the blind,
To set free those who are oppressed,
To proclaim the favorable year of the Lord.”
Luke 4:18‭-‬19

In a way Joanita is living this very mission.

Christians do not belong to a religious system.

A religious system expects us to perform to get a reward from God, and if we fail we are damned.

So Paul builds a whole case to explain that, if we are one with Jesus Christ, and The Spirit, then we are free from a religious system. God does not condemn us.

Paul further drives the point that this does not apply to those who are Christians by profession only, or those who are just members of the Christian Church.

It applies to those who have an active faith in Christ and are united to Him by the Spirit. Thus becoming a new creation completely. (2Cor 5:17)

Paul goes on to say in verse 9 that, 'if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him.'

And these verses then completes the idea, 'we are under obligation, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh— for if you are living according to the flesh, you must die; but if by the Spirit you are putting to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.'
Romans 8:12‭-‬14

We were all created in the image of God.

Man lost his identity in God when he fell. God restored that identity when He stepped into our shoes and restored us by dying in our place and rising from the dead.

We as Christians are now the very dwelling place of God. We are called to serve one another. And the Spirit of God that has given us our freedom, is also the One who strengthens us to serve.
