'The Earth Spider Conjures up Demons at the Mansion of Minamoto no Raiko,' woodblock by Utagawa Kuniyoshi, dated 1843. In the top right, the Earth Spider summons a procession of other yokai above Minamoto no Raiko, who lays sick in bed. The multitudenous and in this case frenzied nature of the conjured yokai is reminiscent of the hyakki yagyo, or Night Parade of 100 Demons, a special night where all manner of supernatural creatures have reign in our mortal realm

'First Sting' by Stuart Brown, 2008. This depicts the usage of a heat-seeking, shoulder-launched Stinger anti-aircraft missile right before the projectile connects with its target, a Soviet helicopter. These weapons were initially passed off to the mujahideen in August and Sept of 1986. Of course in its wake, both Bush and Clinton authorized a missile buy-back program to prevent these stingers from ending up in unauthorized or potentially unfriendly hands, however neither of these attempts yielded much success, leading to a superfluity of these weapons in the region.

'Washington and Lafayette at Mount Vernon' by Louis Remy Mignot, dated 1859, 'Mount Vernon' author unknown dated 1867 and 'The Reception of Lafayette at Mount Vernon' by Herman Bencke, dated 1875. The Marquis de Lafayette visited American in 1784 ostensibly to see the new nation he had fought for during peacetime. While visiting Washington, commonly described as a surrogate father to Lafayette, he urged abolitionism on Washington, a cause Lafayette believed in deeply.

'Washington and Lafayette at Valley Forge' by John Ward Dunsmore, 1907 and 'Armistead and Lafayette' by Jean Baptiste Le Paon, 1783. In the first, Dunsmore seems to emphasize Lafayette's idolization of Washington, most notably through their similarity of dress and direction of their look. Even Lafayette's horse seems to 'defer' to Washington.
The second features the Marquis and James Armistead Lafayette, an American spy who, while posing as an recently-escaped enslaved man, served under both the turncoat Arnold and even Lord Cornwallis, passing off vital info to other American spies. James Armistead was not freed until 1787, despite a manumission act passed by the Virginia House of Delegates in 1782 freeing enslaved soldiers who fought in the revolution, the loophole being Armistead was a spy, not a soldier. Armistead's petition for freedom, bolstered by a testimonial given by Lafayette in 1784, was approved by the House of Delegates in Jan of 1787, whereupon Armistead took 'Lafayette' as his surname, according to the Lafayette College.

'The Four Freedoms,' by Normal Rockwell, 1943, a series of paintings some would consider propaganda (as is all art to same extent) portraying visual interpretations of the Four Freedoms, first announced by FDR on January 6th, 1941 during that year's State of the Union Address, promulgating both Lend-Lease and the idea that all nations should be committed to the security of the Four Freedoms, those being Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Worship, Freedom from Want and Freedom from Fear (two ofs and two froms, for those counting)
