Second Prisons Officer Murdered

Three days following the ruthless murder of Prisons Officer II Mr. Trevor Serrette, the Trinidad and Tobago Prison Service is once again plunged into mourning, as Prisons Officer I #5058, Nigel Jones of Siparia, is gunned down.

According to information received, the incident occurred at approximately 3.00pm on Monday November 29, 2021, as Officer Jones was walking along the High Street in Siparia when he was ambushed. Several loud explosions were heard and the lifeless body of Officer Jones was seen lying on the ground. The incident is, at present, under investigation and more information is forthcoming.

Commissioner of Prisons, Mr. Dennis Pulchan, has once again, condemned the brazen actions of criminal elements. He lamented that his hard working officers are being killed for doing their jobs. He added that measures must be revisited and enforced to treat with these brutal acts and those commissioning them, that leave families and members of the Trinidad and Tobago Prison Service distraught. Commissioner Pulchan concluded by stating that he hopes that Law Enforcement Agencies leave no stone unturned in bringing these cold blooded murderers to justice. He is also reminding all staff members to be extremely vigilant and cautious, particularly when off duty.

Officer Nigel Jones, a member of the Prison Service for just under over four (4) years, was attached to the Wayne Jackson Building at the Maximum Security Prison. He leaves to mourn his spouse and his three year old daughter.

Our sincerest and heartfelt condolences go out to the family, friends and colleagues, of Officer Nigel Jones. May the eternal light shine upon him and grant us all comfort and grace during this extremely difficult and trying time.
