From the family of Susan Gibson to our trailBLAZER family—

After a 3-year battle with breast cancer, we sadly share with you the unexpected passing of our dear sister Susan. Her courage and strong commitment to trailBLAZER inspired us all.

For 37 years this magazine has been her "child." She persevered during her own personal struggle to consistently produce the quality you have all come to expect in every issue. Your many responses and comments over the years assure us that trailBLAZER accomplished it’s mission and purpose: to serve the interests and needs of the recreational and competitive trail rider.

With regret, trailBLAZER can no longer be published.

On August 22nd and 23rd Silver Sands Bridle Club in New Smyrna Beach, FL is hosting an obstacle clinic and challenge. This will be different than any other challenge we normally see.

Instead of being scored just on the quality of each obstacle being completed, this will be a timed run. However, the maximize gait is a walk for the Junior and Non-Pro divisions and trot for the Open. You can sign up for both if you wish.

This will give you an added challenge with the time being a factor without needing to run your horse. Ideal for obstacle enthusiasts, beginners and a great schooling class for the Extreme Cowboy competitors.

On Saturday we will have the course set up and run 1.5 hour schooling classes beginning at 9 AM. So you can even practice on the course the day before! There will be instruction and assistance on the obstacles and help with running the course. Make sure to sign up for your early spot, but we will still accept riders as they show up.

You will be able to work on your horsemanship and enjoy the day on the grounds while preparing for the challenge day.

This is a great facility for this event and the arena is covered. Let's make it a success so we can repeat it again here! Tell all your obstacle and recreational riding friends about this weekend. This is kinda short notice, so we need some help :-)

I will be the instructor and judge this weekend and look forward to having a fun, safe time riding with everyone.

SaraJo's story:

We had purchased a malnourished TWH 2yr old c**t several years ago. We named him Achileze because his feet were so bad. About the same time we had gotten a tiny chihuahua mixed pup. My kids named he pup Kitty because she was so tiny she looked like a kitten. Kitty would ride in my sweatshirt pocket as I did chores or brushed the horses, she made sure to greet each horse with a special nose lick. When we started riding the TWH the pup was determined to come along but her little legs couldnt keep up. That didnt discourage her one bit, but soon she wore out and began to cry. The c**t stopped and refused to continue on until my husband had picked up little Kitty and placed her in his saddle bag. Kitty rode there all summer with us; her little head peaking out of the bags as we went along. Never once did Achileze ever throw a fit, rush off or do anything other harmful behavior. I think he was trying his best to take care of his precious cargo!
