Cebu Press Freedom Week 2024 ended with a Closing Fellowship at Seda Ayala Center Cebu on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2024 that showcased the singing, dancing and comedic skills of the members of the Cebu Federation of Beat Journalists. The Defense PNP Press Corps (Depp) placed first in the friendly skit competition that had musicals as a theme. The Closing Fellowship was supported by Globe Telecom, Ayala Corp., WeAreAyala Business Club, Bank of the Philippine Islands, Ayala Land, Inc., AC Health and AC Mobility.

SunStar Cebu held the Reaching Out to Future Journalists Forum at the Don Carlos A. Gothong Memorial National High School on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2024, with Khin Thandar Htay, director for Southeast Asia of Women in News, sharing with campus journalists the relevance of journalism in the digital age.

Panelists for the forum titled “Building Junior Journalists Ensuring Cyber Safety” were Melanie Ng of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Calvin Cordova of Manila Bulletin, Carmelle Claire Therese Estenzo of Cebu Archdiocese, Nathaniel Flores of Don Carlos A. Gothong Memorial National High School, and Reina Aureo of Cebu Normal University’s Ang Suga school paper.

During the forum, Nestor B. Ramirez, executive publisher of SunStar Cebu, introduced to the audience, composed of students from 14 schools, the Junior Journo Program, which has so far trained around 60 junior journalists in Cebu City.

On the occasion of the 32nd celebration of Cebu Press Freedom Week, the Cebu Citizens-Press Council, Stet (Women in Cebu Media), and the Cebu Media Legal Aid (Cemla) held the forum “Mamser: Improving media reporting on gender” on Thursday, Sept. 19, 2024 at the Marcelo B. Fernan Cebu Press Center in Cebu City.

The featured speakers were food and travel writer Jude Bacalso, Atty. Archill Capistrano of the Office of Anti-Sexual Harassment of U.P. Cebu College, Atty. Ian Vincent Manticajon of Cemla, and Chase Go of the Transman Equality and Awareness Movement.

Cebu columnists enjoy dinner and belt out songs during the Columnists’ Fellowship held Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2024 at Casino Español de Cebu in line with the celebration of Cebu Press Freedom Week 2024. The event was supported by WTG Construction & Development Corp., Metro, SM Supermalls, Love & Diamonds, and Rico Dionson.
