Kiwis love a competition. There's a cheese award, a pie award and yes, a hot cross bun award. This baby by has been named Supreme Bun three years running.It's made with a sourdough starter that's been in the German baker's family for.. wait for it... 600 years! It's pillowy soft, slightly spicy and the dried fruit is soaked in NZ pineapple rum. And just look at the colour of the butter, natural pigment from loads of beta carotene in the milk of grass fed cows. #

All the cheeses you see here are made from water buffalo milk by cheesemaker Adam Thompson at Oro Bianco Italian Creamery, the first water buffalo dairy in Texas. The animals graze naturally on Texas pasture and produce high quality milk with more butterfat and nutrients than cow milk. The cheeses are all fabulous and the aged, nutty Vecchio is a standout.

And this is the dish that won People's Choice in the Mystery Wine Competition at the CanadianCulinaryChampionship. Chef JP Dublado representing Edmonton nailed it with a painterly plate of beet and soy cured albacore tuna, ponzu gel, tomato water, puffed rice and beet green oil. The wine was Lailey Vineyard 2021 Zweigelt from Niagara-on-the-Lake. Not surprised that no-one guessed it but Dublado's pairing was perfect.
