Introducing Tropikal A vintage modern typeface built for elegance & adventure in mind. 🌴🇵🇭

Tropikal is a modern rendition of an old-style font inspired from nineteenth-century Philippine banknotes, newspapers, and packaging designs.

The typeface can span from a vintage feel to a more modern and expressive vibe. You can use the letterforms by themselves or you can add image overlays or shadows if you feel a little bit adventurous.

Hey guys! It’s been a while! Was such a busy week last week for me, baking a wedding cake(i know, far from what I usually do but this is one of my favorite hobbies) and taking wedding photos(a friend of mine got married) plus a birthday celebration that happened the next day! Anyways, all the happenings did consume a lot of my creative energy and the past days I decided to just take a break and not do anything creatively, so I can tackle this week better. I have been doing okay so far. But I want to share to you this: You can’t be everything for everyone. And I learned this from a local mentor and hit me hard. Sometimes we try to do a lot and spread ourselves thin and it can take a big hit negatively. It is very important to take a break and get some quiet time. Know what you really love and focus on it. Be good at it. After all, you can’t please everyone, but you can please yourself. Have a great week everybody. ❤️ Best, - Ruth P.S. Read closer. What do you see? Can you see the invisible(sort of) texts? “Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to Success. If you love what you’re doing, you’ll be successful.” I found this quote by Albert Schweitzer and this couldn’t be more true. And it applies to a lot of areas of life in general. Passion, business, learning. What about you? Do you love what you’re doing? Cause if you do, then you will certainly be successful at it. Keep going! .

Have you ever had this point in your career where you asked yourself,

“How much should I charge per hour?”

“Is my design work worth this much?”

A lot of our fellow Filipino graphic designers actually charge less than they deserve.

But there’s a lot of things that needed to be discussed about this topic that I might have to make a part 2 of this slides.

Here’s a guide for all of us freelance designers, that I think will help set a basis of how much we are really worth.

My aim in creating this page is to make everyone of us realize that as long as you deliver great, quality work that satisfy your clients, we can charge so much more.

I hope in your journey with me, we can scratch off the stigma our filipino designers’ work is cheap because it’s substandard. If you’re a newbie, this can be a good foundation for you.

In these trying times, mental health has become one of the most important parts of everyone’s well being. But if you are a creative like me, it’s a different kind of anxiety. Here are some reminders that can help us get through the over-thinking, restlessness, and excessive worrying. Would like to give a shoutout to for writing this. .

This is something everyone of us freelancers, newbies and experienced alike. I think one of the most important things about being in this journey is delivering quality work, a job so well done, that your client will remember you(and even recommend you to other networks of potential clients).

To those who are still starting, I hope this advise will resonate to you and that you will “always deliver more than expected” - Larry Page, co-founder of Google. And it does make a lot of sense.

So you might ask, what are the things you can do to deliver more than expected? A few examples:

-Client gave a deadline three days from now, you submit a well thought first draft within 12 hours.

-Client asked for two design options, you give them 4 design options.

-Client asked for the final design in jpeg format, you give them the design mock-ups on tshirts, business cards, and signages.

Among many others! It is always better to over deliver than under deliver.

You see, these people hired you so they can add value to their business. And if you go above and beyond the call of duty to give them the best design of your life, you add value to their business.

And you know what that means? It means they will value you.

I know. Been there done that. Newbies usually get stuck in a rut when it comes to trying to get that job, win that nice client, grab that promising project. A lot of young people here probably are still in the same position. In my graphic design career, I have learned so much about navigating the dos and don’ts when it comes to sending that application and eventually winning that client. Here are some useful tips you might want to bear in mind. And if you have additional tips, I would like to know! .

Over the years of my graphic design career, especially during my first year in the industry, I’ve had my fair share of doubts and discouragements. And honestly, it could be very difficult to move forward, or even start, on the things you are passionate of doing, when you see so many designers doing better than you do.

But let me tell you one thing.

When you start believing in yourself, great things happen.

So take that one step, and continue doing it so when the time comes, you’d be glad to say, “I’m so glad I did it.”

Something to remind ourselves(or our client) whenever we get a new project. Graphic design, as how I’ve learned, is merely just making a flyer look cool. Over the years, it has become more of a strategy which it really is. And sometimes people tend to forget how important it is in the business. We all heard this saying, “we all got to start somewhere” and in passion pursuits, a lot of times, people start with an idea. And believe it or not, all the things, great and small, that we see right now, have originated from ideas from decades and centuries ago. Some are crazy, and some are conveniently solving problems. And as a designer, creating ideas are super important in problem solving. You really need to be creative to standout. My ideas usually pop out after my second cup of coffee. How about you? .

Many times, when we develop a goal or an ambition, we are limited by what we feel. One of the biggest emotions that can make or break a dream is FEAR. And when you have the fear in failing, not exceeding expectations, or even starting on your idea, or goal, or business, it can be extremely difficult to follow through and get moving.
