A rabbit entered a shop and asked: "Do you have carrots?" They said, "no, we don't have."

The following day the rabbit came to the shop and asked again, "Do you have carrots?"

They replied angrily, " We said we don't have carrots, if you come back again asking for carrots, we gonna SINK A NAIL in your HEAD with a HAMMER!"

The third day the rabbit came yet again and asked, "Do you have a hammer?" They replied, "NO."

He said, "What about nails?" They said, "NO."

Then he calmly asked, "Do you have carrots?"

Muhammadu Buhari

I salute World Heavyweight Boxing Champion, Anthony Joshua, on his Saturday night comeback victory over Andy Ruiz Jnr. You have brought joy and celebration to millions of Nigerians at home and in the Diaspora; we are and will continue to be immensely proud of you.

The downfall of a man is truly not the end of his life. There’s always another, and better day. This is a lesson we must all learn from Anthony Joshua, as a country.

I borrowed money to pay workers’ salaries in May – Abiodun

The governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has said that he contacted some of his friends who are Managing Directors in some banks to borrow money from their banks before he could pay the state workers’ salaries in May.

Governor Abiodun disclosed this in Abeokuta on Monday, during an interactive session with past and present political functionaries, who are members of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State.

Abiodun said; “On the second day of my resumption of work, I called the Head of Service to discuss about the payment of staff salaries for the month of May.

“The Head of Service told me that there was not enough money to pay workers’ salaries which amounted to over N7bn. But, because of the priority which I attached to payment of workers’ salaries as at when due, I had to call some of my friends who are Managing Directors in some banks to come to our aid, which they promptly acceded to.

“I also instructed that banks should work extra hours to enable workers withdraw their salaries as soon as they received credit alerts, which the banks obliged”.

The governor said his administration will ensure good governance, and provide adequate security to enable people go about their legitimate businesses without fear or harassment.

Abiodun warned that his government will not tolerate cultism, banditry and hooliganism, saying that whoever is caught engaging in these nefarious activities will face the full weight of the law.

He disclosed that he will not engage in blame game about the past administration, as he will focus on how the people of the state will benefit from his administration.

The governor promised that his administration will soon begin construction and rehabilitation of rural roads to give succour to inhabitants of rural areas, while local government administration will receive a boost.

Gbajabiamila said the new assembly, particularly the House of Representatives, would do things differently to get better results.

He assured Nigerians that the new House would make hard work and commitment its watchwords in order to meet the aspirations of Nigerians.

WHO CAN EVER FORGET UNCLE SEGUN OLUSOLA??

BY TOLA ADENIYI

Cultural Impresario Olusegun Olusola is simply unforgettable. The creative genius of Iperu leaves indelible impression on you on even a minute contact. The legendary broadcast guru first at the WNBS/WNTV and later at the NTA Channel 10 remains an inimitable icon. The creator of the incomparable Village Headmaster remains immortal in the annals of theatre and soap.

Does any one else have Olusola’s booming voice? A sound like the Oracle’s in the grove? Does any one else have Olusola’s pictorial in-your-face style of writing? Read his Letter to My Son!!!

I first met Uncle Segun Olusola in July 1964, or should I say Uncle Segun first met me in 1964 because it was he who came calling at Ijebu Muslim College Ijebu-Ode where I was pursuing my HSC programme. He wanted a mentor for his little nephew Funmilola Joshua [now Odusolu] then a Form 2 boy in the same school and for reasons only Fate can explain he zeroed on me and handed over the young lad to me.

A year later I wanted to adapt Chinua Achebe’s all-time classic Things Fall Apart to a play for the stage and television and needed Achebe’s permission. Achebe and Olusola were colleagues in the Broadcasting House. The then Mr. Olusola took me to Mr. Achebe to satisfy Copyright laws and permission was granted to make history for me as the first playwright to adapt Things Fall Apart for stage production.

Olusola took me on from 1965 as my unforgettable mentor and followed my career with keenest interest until he commenced his journey in the Continuum. He provided Vacation jobs for me at the NBC-TV 1967/68 and also provided me accommodation in his official residence! He was with me in Canada 2011? when he came as Niyi Temowo’s Special Guest on World Refugee day programme.

Chief Olusegun Olusola was very much at home with the Arts as he was with Cultural artifacts. He was very much at home with tradition as he was with Diplomacy and the nuances of international Politics. He recorded landmark achievements as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Ethiopia with accreditation to neighbouring countries.

While one may argue that Olusola’s greatest impact was in the broadcast industry there are others that would pick the Arts as leader while others would vote for his unparalleled contributions to Refugee issues as number one in his crowded list of impressive achievements.

Olusegun Olusola was also a master in Conflict resolution deploying all of his diplomacy, natural peaceful disposition and rich wisdom earned from his grandparents as weapons for dousing tension wherever conflict reared its head.

A very loving and caring individual Chief Segun Olusola was kind to a fault. He was ever ready to render a helping hand and humanity was at the centre of his life-long philosophy. A committed parent and loyal husband Olusegun Olusola was every inch a gentleman whose word was his bond. A reliable and dependable ally, Olusola was a quintessential Omoluwabi, a thorough-bred Yoruba and nationalist.

As a role model Olusola was respectable, respectful of others and majorly self respecting. Little wonder he was patron of hundreds of Organizations across the country and was always getting invited to chair programmes all over the country.

It is not only that the vacuum his exit created would be difficult to fill it is apparent that the vacuum remains unfilled even as we speak!
