"Quality time with people and hearing other people's stories is really important for me. I spend a lot of time as a life coach. I spend most of my time hearing other people's stories and just asking questions and letting them tell their stories. The idea of being a cheap story shaper is I don't write your story, I just help you to curate it so that it makes more sense and hits the mark better. And I find that fascinating. I love hearing other people's stories, but you're always learning. And I've spent 20 years immersing myself or actually more than 20 years immersing myself in trying to understand the human condition. And no matter how much I learn, I just realised I know almost nothing and it makes you feel very small and makes you really excited about the world, at the same time"

"We don't realize that we are simply enacting ideology and philosophy that others propagated. And I suppose there's another kind of agricultural term there. We're talking seed and propagation, but that's it. It is all about ideas, but it's also about behaviors and habits and patterns."

"I think the human condition is ultimately all about two things identity and the way that we relate to other people. So it's who we are and understanding who we are and then understanding who other people are, and that helps us connect better. I'm not sure that we're particularly good at it. I think that a lot of what's happening in society is breaking that apart. And I have a real passion for helping to patch that together and teach people how to connect better."

"Perhaps my creativity, the chief point of it might be to inspire creativity and others, I don't know. But I think once I removed it from the necessity of performance and affirmation and validation, then it's just much freer and it can just flow at once."

"One of the things I do love about journals is that it gives you an insight into the growth that you've had and how we've evolved as humans. And it helps me to have more Grace for myself to go. I'm a work in progress, but others are also a work in progress. So the really toxic person who you're dealing with today, they're probably going to mellow out in a little while. So, do you have hope for them? Because then you can just sit it out and they'll be great in five years' time."

"If I just look at the sense that this is a day where we can be creative, where we can just share and celebrate all that stuff, whether it's the food that we make, whether it's the art that we make, whether it's something we're just humming or tapping, we're endlessly creating. And so I'm really just looking for a space where that can be just a really widely accepted and affirmed way of life without the pressures of money and time and all these sorts of things.."

"When you go to a party you don't really want to go to, when you leave, and you think “I’m actually glad I went because I had a good time”, that's what I want to provide. Even if it's 16 degrees and raining, and you've had the worst day at work, I just want to make you feel really good for 50 minutes. I guess that's always been my aim." .sings

"So we still have a long way to go. But I guess it's going back to what my mum taught me, to take every opportunity that comes my way to say yes. Mum knew that the way for us out of poverty was through education and relationships. And I guess today that relationship means friendship. And so sometimes it's just teaching people to have a conversation, just to listen, let's listen to one another, learn from one another, love one another." .official

"If we're just thinking about it as spontaneous, continuous creativity is, we are just scattering seed. Somebody else might plant that water it, grow it, and we don't even need to know what happens eventually. But just this kind of acceptance of those conditions is really liberating. And as teachers, you teach hundreds, hundreds, and the longer you stay into it, people end up teaching thousands of students, and it's just like scattering seeds to the wind."

"We always had challenges and there were things going on that we had to navigate, there was just no indication that we would have to our leadership and would have to grow so rapidly and with it our own sense of survival and functioning and everything would be challenged. And so I think for me, going into that 2022 period has been really confronting, not only in sort of working out how to lead and survive through this as a small to medium, not-for-profit, but also in my own leadership." .parker_

"I hate the question “Where do you see yourself in five years?” Because I'm like, “I don't know! Five years ago, I would never have seen where I am right now.” All I know is I want to still be creatively fulfilled and still make a difference - however big or small - in people's lives, by sharing my ability to create things." .sings

"At first the differences can seem really big and kind of full of tension. But once you unravel a few layers and connect with someone at a heart level, you realise that everyone has a lot more in common than you realise at first. So intense sometimes, but meaningful and really beautiful and life-giving to us." .battey

"How do we build people up so that they go into it without having issues at all? There'll always be conflicts that arise. That's what makes the story interesting. But how you deal with that conflict is what makes a story fascinating and how the characters grow as they work through that together. That takes a degree of humility and it takes a lot of trust because to go into conflict and not insist that you are right, I am right and you're wrong. That's a vulnerable place. And so one of the things that I try very hard to do in my community building exercises is to build trust because that's a basic building block of relationships."

"We actually have so much power and capacity to set the tone of the conversations and the relationships and the communities around us that often we don't realise we walk into a community wherever that might be at work or school or uni or basketball team, whatever. We take culture for granted and we might kind of second guess our capacity to influence it or to have a say in the way that we build that. And we don't have to be super intense about that all the time. But I think what we can do is recognise that actually, every person has different gifts and like, a different flavour that they add to the conversation. And when we kind of walk into a space and we can kind of lean into and own the flavour that we bring and know what that is and have some intention with that, then, yeah, we actually have so much capacity to just season those communities, to take the metaphor like, a step further." .battey
