CANCER
June 21—July 22

Cancer is the sign of the home and family, particularly the mother and if you’re a Cancer those things are important to you. If you had a dysfunctional relationship with your mother and didn’t get the nurturing you needed, you may try to get it from every person you meet or try to take care of everyone in your life, despite their protests.

Cancers can be sensitive and if you’re a high level Cancer your sensitivity to others is life affirming. You spread your wings and everyone in your environment feels supported and taken care of. If you’re a low level Cancer you respond to every real or imaginary slight in sight. Your feelings are easily hurt and being self-centered, they are infinitely more important than other peoples. George W. Bush is a Cancer. Instead of being the Nurturer in Chief, he was the Chief Destroyer.

Cancers, low or high level, like a feeling of rootedness to feel secure. Yet, sometimes Cancers grow the most when they don’t have a secure place to call home. A high level Cancer, the Dalai Lama, has made the whole world his home, after being evicted from Tibet by brutal Chinese landlords.

A low level Cancer can be overwhelmed and controlled by her or his emotions. Once Cancer moves beyond his or her own personal feelings, however, she or he becomes a reservoir of compassion. Cancer is a cardinal sign, which means it likes to take action and Cancer takes action to protect others, to work for the common good. Having a high level Cancer on your side is like having angelic protection. High level Cancers, like Senator Elizabeth Warren, work tirelessly for the middle-class and protect consumers. Another high level Cancer is former Secretary of Labor under Bill Clinton, Robert Reich, who still works night and day to put workers rights on the front burner.

Alan Oken says the following in Soul Centered Astrology about a high level Cancer: This individual “would be found hard at work trying to feed the homeless, creating projects for the best use of agricultural lands, and generally devoting his life to the cohesive networking of men and women of goodwill.”

While the Sun is in Cancer, people are generally more sensitive and security conscious. Home and family are in focus, with the domestic arts taking precedence.

If you’re an Aries, the Cancer month will be spent tending to the home and domestic concerns, including focus on family members. A Ta**us, on the other hand, will be spending time improving his or her communication skills, talking, writing, being nurturing with siblings, and making short distance trips.

A low-level Ta**us is completely focused on the material plane and they want what they want when they want it. They are very good at accumulating and managing possessions, they adore luxury, and they’re very sensual. They have trouble connecting with the Spirit because they are so fixated on the physical level. They’re excellent at making money, stick to a project until Hell freezes over, and have a green thumb. Ta**us is stubborn, whether they are high or low level, and don’t change easily. They are the most fixed and possessive of all the signs. A low-level Ta**us can repress his or her anger until it erupts and does great damage like Hi**er, or Jim Jones, or Pol Pot, Idi Amin, or Saddam Hussein.

High-level Ta**us’ know how to connect with the Spirit in a practical, grounded manner. They are wonderful in nature and often find the Holy located in it. High-level Ta**us’ are loyal to their friends and will stick with them past Hell freezing over. A High Level Ta**us has learned to control her or his desires, not repress them but put their physical drives into perspective. The High Level Ta**us is very creative. The women and men are comely and appealing. According to Alan Oken in Soul Centered Astrology, a High Level Ta**us can “stimulate the presence of Light in any form which matter may take.”

During the lush month of Ta**us we can find the Spirit in nature, focus on our gardens, and develop our projects and celebrate the Earth.

For Aries, the Ta**us month is best for working on finances, for Ta**us, this month is best for expansion and personal development, for Gemini, Ta**us is a time for spiritual retreat and relaxation, for Cancer, meeting with friends and involvement with groups, for Leo- career development, for Virgo it’s a great time to travel, to follow a course of study, to publish a book. Libra should be looking at joint finances, focusing on s*xual issues. Scorpio should be working on relationships. Mercury will be retrograde on January 21st. We should put off starting any new projects until after February 11th when Mercury is no longer retrograde. It’s a good time, though, to reevaluate old projects. We should also delay buying appliances or cars because even new items may be lemons and break down. Be prepared for appointments that are cancelled, mail that goes missing, being told wrong information, and people saying things they don’t mean. When communicating we'll have to be crystal clear or difficulties are bound to arise. If you travel during this time, make sure your vehicle is in good condition and be willing to adapt to new contingencies along the way.

With Mercury going retrograde in Aquarius we may have more trouble than usual with computers and electronic equipment. Communication with friends or in groups can also be problematic.

Aries could have trouble with miscommunications with friends and difficulty getting his or her point across in groups while Ta**us could have communication problems with bosses and authority figures. If going on a long trip, Gemini could have difficulties with airlines and schedules, missing appointments. Or they could have problems with higher education. Cancer could have problems with debts, joint finances, and miscommunication about s*xual issues. Leo should guard against communication difficulties with partners. Aquarius
January 20th to February 18


This is the month for friendship, humanitarian concerns, working with groups to save the planet. It’s not really the month for romantic love even though Valentine’s Day occurs while the Sun is still in this sign. Romantic love is Pisces purview. Do people really feel romantic on February 14th or do they just think they do? Aquarians often have trouble with relationships because they feel more comfortable being detached than personal. If you try to get too personal with an Aquarius, they’ll feel uncomfortable and withdraw. On a higher level, they are meant to use their energies for humanitarian concerns rather than just one to one relationships. Rather than focusing their energies on helping humanity, lower level Aquarians can become isolates and end up misanthropic, particularly in their old age.

Besides focusing our energies on groups and humanitarian concerns this month, Aquarius is also the sign of technology, inventions, and cosmic consciousness. Aquarians always seem to know things that the rest of us don’t. It’s a great sign for cosmic intuition and we should try this month to tune in ourselves. All Capricorns like to be in control and those on the lover level will become dictatorial to maintain it, rationalizing that they know what is best for the group.

Capricorn is a community sign and they are interested in what works for a community on the materialistic level. Capricorns are pragmatic and dislike being emotional (because emotions make them feel out of control), although they will sometimes tolerate feelings in others. Capricorns like organization and they’re ambitious. They feel guilty if they don’t take responsibility. Few Capricorns feel comfortable just leading a couch potato life and feel that they must accomplish something important.

According to Alan Oken in his book, Soul Centered Astrology, lower level Capricorns, however, have a “total attachment to the physical plane”. “Life seems like a constant uphill battle and it is.” These low life Capricorns, like Richard Nixon and Joseph Stalin are motivated by fear. Oken goes on to say that self-seeking creates further karmic debts, “until the bricks turn into boulders and the Capricorn collapses under the weight.” Once the ego is torn, a glimmer of light can pe*****te the hard packed earth and a ray of light awakens the unconscious heart. A higher level Capricorn begins to see the spiritual value within the forms of life. A low level Sagittarian is impractical, goes to extremes, and is irresponsible and undisciplined. They don’t want to be pinned down so they have a hard time maintaining relationships. They are a law onto themselves. Alan Oken in Soul Centered Astrology says, “The urge to increase experience without having a structure or inner truth to guide such expansion leads one into a great diffusion of energy.” Despite his beautiful voice, the rock singer, Jim Morrison, was a good example of a lower level Sagittarian, along with General George Custer, Brittany Spears, and Herman Cain.

Libra is the sign of the balance and its main thrust in life is to deal equitably in human relationships. It is often considered wishy-washy because it has a hard time making decisions; it is always trying to balance two sides of any question. Higher level Libras are the best diplomats and ombudsmen because they can always see another person’s perspective, trying to smooth over difficulties in relationships. Lower level Libras still have a focus on relationships but they can’t seem to get along in one. They are rarely diplomatic, often acting in a gauche manner. My higher level Libra friends always seem to cooperate, to think of my needs as well as their own. They are kind and supportive. The Lower level Libras I’ve met are rude and are dense about relationships, so much lower in consciousness from the higher level natives. Lower levels are struggling to make the transition from personal wants and needs to understanding and promoting right Human relations as Alan Oken puts it in his book, Soul Centered Astrology. According to Oken, Libra’s keyword phrase is Let Choice be Made. There is a tension in Libra he says of opposing forces needing harmony and balance. This is the battle between the lower and the higher selves. It is here that Libra is tested and right judgment and proper use of love are cultivated.

When the Sun is in Libra our focus should be relationships: How to approach them from a balanced perspective. How to be fair and equitable. We can also spend time beautifying our surroundings.

Relationships and marriage will be a primary focus for Aries this month as the sign of the ram can be generally too self-centered and me first. For Ta**us the Libra month is a time to contemplate relationships in the working environment, as well as supporting justice and fairness for fellow employees. Health matters are best solved by seeking balance, with special attention paid to the kidneys. About Virgo
August 22-September 22

With the Sun traveling through the sign of Virgo we’ll spend the next month being more critical, analytical, focused on work and service, paying attention to detail, health and diet.

As with every sign there are lower and higher level types. Lower level Virgos can be critical, carping, and have low self-esteem. Unlike more organized and clear thinking Virgos, they can be messy and confused. The Kabbalists say that the month of Virgo is the time for purification. Virgos are happy when they take the time to rid themselves of extra weight, addictions, and superfluous materialism.

While some people think that Virgo women can be petty and s*xually cold, the higher types enjoy their s*xuality and are loyal partners in treasured relationships. Almost all Virgos have a good sense of humor, and are witty and adaptable. Some Virgo comedians include Bob Newhart, the late Paul Lynn, and Lewis Black. While lower level Virgos have trouble with work, higher-level natives are happiest when they are of service to others. In his book, Soul Centered Astrology, Alan Oken says that low levels “have a horror of open spaces and will fill the air with excessive words, closets with superfluous clothing, and minds with needless thoughts.”

Higher levels, on the other hand, are “discriminating, know what to keep, what to throw away, and where to find work that allows creative self-expression, benefits and serves others in the process, so that they may have a clearer understanding of their function and role in society.” The more spiritual the Virgo becomes the more he or she is focused clearly on world service.
