Fall is one of my favorite times of year—both for the beautiful seasonal colors AND new UBAM titles!

Like many parents living through a pandemic, I've let a couple things slide as I tried to navigate this new world we're all living in.

Recently, I've managed to pick up a couple plates I've dropped over the summer--UBAM being one of them. So, I've decided to host a little "relaunch" mystery hostess party this month!

We’ve been using lots of Usborne & Kane Miller books, like our Woodland Book here, to identify & learn about the furry and feathered creatures sharing our property. Joss’s current favorite hobby is birdwatching—which makes my heart incredibly full. 🐦 🦉

Meet our new reading nook! We are still unpacking, but settling into our new home in the woods. The kids have already designated this sofa as “the book couch,” and I’m so thrilled to have a new space to read aloud to them on cozy winter nights next to a roaring fire. What would you read here?
Side note: if anyone could remind Massachusetts that it is SPRING and NOT snow time, that would be great. 🤣

In these times of uncertainty, erratic schedules, and social distancing, I’m incredibly grateful for books and the ability to spend quality reading aloud time with my kids.

Some news: we bought a house! Which also means we have to start packing away our belongings. This morning I was packing up some of our off-season gear, and Joss literally sat in the middle of all the mess on my bed to read to herself. .

In an attempt to limit morning screen time (which is harder than ever now that my oldest knows how to work the remote!), I suggested the boys play with their Usborne Pull-Back Busy Books. Worked like a charm! I had time to clean up after breakfast and nobody was trying to kill each other. 🤪

- S o u n d o n - to hear this beautiful book. This girl wants (we read seven before bedtime tonight) and has a lot of fun exploring The Four Seasons. Beautiful illustrations and Vivaldi—IMHO a pretty effective bedtime story!

Happy World Wildlife Conservation Day! Did you know there are currently 16,306 species on the endangered species list? According to the Animal Welfare Institute, “One out of four of the world’s mammals and over 40 percent of amphibians are threatened with extinction due to human activity, including habitat destruction, overexploitation, climate change, and pollution, as well as human overpopulation.” It is our job as parents to instill a love and reverence for all creation in our children—and the easiest way to start is through books! Which books have you used to inspire your kids to love nature?

Anyone else l o v e window shopping? I remember sifting through catalogs and magazines as a kid, daydreaming about filling my home with horse-related stuff.

Nowadays, it’s books and stuff for the kids, but it’s equally fun to daydream with my -own- children (and will be even more fun to see their eyes light up when they open their presents this year!) about what they want on their already overflowing shelves.

Personally I’d like to see the Usborne illustrated edition of Little Women under the tree but I’m not dropping hints or anything. 🤪
