The Owlkids October issues have always been my favourite, which makes me even more excited that my story “The Everything Costume” is in Chickadee Magazine this month! 🎃

This story is about a boy named Frank who wants to be EVERYTHING for Halloween. His dreams are as big as mountains and as many as the stars.

(And I might admit, the “everything costume” may have been inspired by Joey wearing every piece of Chandler’s clothing, and the sentiment behind Sylvia Plath’s plum tree metaphor. ✨)

🌙 After a sleepy summer hiatus, Snorey Books is back with a Special Episode!

My lovely nieces, Lily and Sophia, picked a book from the shelf, and we read the story together! The girls chose The Tale of Jemima Puddle-Duck by Beatrix Potter. 🐥

This story is full of perseverance and about trusting others, which might not always be the best idea—especially when you're dealing with a fox. 🦊

🌙 I think the origins of Snorey Books goes back to May 2020, shortly after my first-ever children’s story was published in Chirp Magazine. Here I am, in the beginning stages of the pandemic, reading to my niece Lily this story. It was a bit tricky working out the technology, and I had wished there could be an easier way to share stories with her when we were miles apart.

💤 I have always loved reading to my nieces whenever I had the chance to visit. Sometimes, better than picture books, Lily and I would dream up stories with the lights out as we tried to fall asleep, taking turns by adding a sentence or two to whatever tale we were inventing. These often included unicorns and a young girl with magical powers who lived in treehouse on islands with sandy beaches.

✨Contrary to picture books, I do think listening to stories with your eyes closed, in the safe space of a warm bed, provides a unique and limitless experience, where a little one’s imagination is more in charge of the storytelling—and I think this should be celebrated.

I’ll also have to admit, while I do love reading to my nieces, sometimes I would feel too tired to pick up a picture book or invent stories—and I would feel like terrible Auntie!

With Snorey Books, it is my hope that it can be a story time alternative, that not only sparks imagination, but can give parents and caregivers a break whenever they need. 💛

Not long ago, I finally walked the stage!

Acheiving a Masters in Fine Arts in Creative Writing has always been a big dream of mine—and I wanted to share this milestone with you all.

It had taken me five years to write my first middle-grade novel, and I'm finally ready to share it with the world. While I'm not completley sure what's to come next, I'm excited for this next chapter.

But what I do know what is to come is more storytelling on —and of course writing more little stories of my own. ✨

When I think of Wind in the Willows, I always think of the scene in the '90s Matilda movie where Miss Honey slips Matilda a copy of the novel without her parents noticing. 💫
