NNAMDI KANU & DONALD J. TRUMP (COMPARISON)
(Warning: Don’t copy this post, You can only share the page)
It comes like a shock when one discovers that the person of Donald J. Trump is not so far away as it seems. What if he has been around for long but in a different form and person? Mr. Nnamdi Kanu happens to share a person with Mr. Trump in the most identical way that people will always be shocked to learn. Mr. Trump once said: “One reason people like me is because I’m blunt, the same reason is why some hate me. But one reason I’m successful is that I can cut through nonsense quickly and get to the core of things.” Within these words rest the striking qualities of two men who went out of fashion to create new styles.
The sharp difference one can notice between Mr. Trump & Kanu is that the former is a billionaire while the later is not, ‘yet’. While this holds, the most outstanding similarity is that both have received praises and rebooks on the same thing. Not being usual.
Some of my lecturers in school chose to view the Biafran agitation through the prison of Mr. Kanu’s approach especially when it rests within the context of “Prudence”. “He is not prudent, he is rude”, they will say, “he should not been listened to”. Such is their conclusion. Quite admittedly, Mr. Kanu is the most eccentric orator there is to see. According to Robert Greene, the modern world ushered in an epoch where politeness became the single means to be both courtly and deviant, oratory therefore suppose to represent the height of civilisation and refinement. Violent and vulgar dialectics are frowned at. As such, one must have to speak in a particular way to become appealing. For you then to be an orator, you must be properly schooled in the principles of what is acceptable. The ilk of Trump & Kanu sharply deviated from this notwithstanding.
They quite disagree with such rules that adorn evil with beautiful robes, disguise truth to soothe people’s emotions, because things should be expressed as they are and not the other way round. Such is uncommon and unusual. Mr. Trump is blunt with reality, Mr. Kanu is even blunter, however, the most unusual thing people know about truth is that it is even the bluntest. Words can try to be nice, actions can make it smoother but truth is always rough.
I don’t know why Americans chose blunt Trump over sweet Clinton but I think it’s the same reason why Biafrans chose the vulgar Kanu over the appealing and polite political elites. Knowing the reason behind these choices is coming to terms with the striking relationship between Mr. Trump & Kanu.
If you wonder why Mr. Trump is a billionaire or why Mr. Kanu is a surging name and irresistible personality in Nigeria, you can make enquiries on their RESULTS. What America wanted in Trump was more of results than niceties. New results on fallen economy, new results on trade etc. Biafrans also have such reasons for Mr. Kanu. Results matter so much not minding that the means is also necessary. This is the reason why the both would be a popular choice, for no other reason than that they get things done. Mr. Kanu is getting a lot of things done in the Biafran struggle. He is correcting the ill knowledge of history in the most violent of means, he is uniting the politically divided ethnic nationalities of Biafra, he is fighting a diplomatic battle in the international table, he is getting Nigeria confounded in a lot of ways. Why won’t people throw their wait behind him? Such is same for Trump, he delivered the brightest US economy in history, corrected ill negotiated trade deals and a lot more.
It is not surprising why people would always criticise these two characters, because their means of achieving these results are often most surprising. Who would have known that the future of American economy will be borne out of a trade war with China? Who had thought that the safety of Americans in the Middle East would come from a war threat to Iran? Who could have thought that America has a future with North Korea if not that an unusual President had to do the unusual thing? Mr. Kanu has also been unusual in his own style. People hardly believe that the future of Biafra lies in the collapse of Nigeria, or that we can achieve freedom by somehow exposing a Jubril in A*o Rock etc. Such ways are unusual. Usual ways have always been through wars or national politics. One thing with both Mr. Trump and Kanu is that their instincts are hardly wrong. You just need to trust them. This is just where my lecturers may have missed out.
Comparing Nnamdi Kanu and Mr. Trump is good but it is encumbered with a lot of limitations which are worth mentioning. This comparison has nothing to do with private lives or their attitude towards everything. It is just about one aspect of life which they have identical behaviours in. However, I think Mr. Kanu is more authentic, more convincing, has a better moral rectitude. He is just the best you can see in a generation.
