Hey Uprooted Fam 👋🏾 we are officially back in business starting podcast interviews again!!! Could not be more excited to bring our first in person event in Tigray at our favorite place this Saturday 🥳

We’ve been listening and hearing that the diaspora wants to get to learn more about life in Tigray, while deki adey want to explore living outside. The questions have been brought up so much that we want to host these sessions as an opportunity to bridge the gap and reconnect our people to one another.

So join us this Saturday if you are in Mek’ele or send us your questions to be apart of the conversations! See you at Zelan fam 👋🏾

Last night I was moved to tears 🥹 we’ve raised $4,328.36 of our $6,000 goal‼️

Literally can’t believe that we have reached 72% of our goal. It warms my heart seeing so many of us gathering to keep our sisters spirits alive. Their generosity and care knew no bounds and I am honored to deliver their continued blessings.

One more day y’all. Let’s see if we can’t get to the goal line 💜🦋

We are so excited to be at the halfway mark for this fundraising campaign. If you haven’t watched yesterdays we explained that a group of us will be going to Shire next week to hand deliver the donations and visit with people of Shire to see where else we can be of service. It would be amazing to hit our goal by this Friday so please continue to share and support with whatever you can.

This fundraiser allows us to honor our beautiful sisters and while helping our most vulnerable recover from such a horrific experience surviving genocide. Every little bit helps and can make the difference between a family starving or the chance to rebuild their life.

Thank you so much to everyone supporting so far. It means the world to us and those directly impacted.

To Honor Zu’s Legacy and Fulfill Nadia’s Promise

Zuher Ali Ibrahim was born on July 28, 1998, in Shire, Tigray, and raised in New York City. She was such a bright light and amazing spirit having impacted so many lives in the 23 years she shared with us on this planet. On April 24th, 2022, our sweet sister and friend Zuher passed a few months before her 24th birthday, and walking in her Master’s degree commencement from Fordham University. Zuher was an academic giant completing her degrees with double majors and minors, even taking the time to extend her thesis paper! But that was/is Zuher, her love of learning and school was so apparent but she never held anyone to that standard. She believed everyone deserved access to information as did our sister Nadia.

Nadia Abdelwahab Kassa was born on November 30, 1992, in Seattle, Washington. Nadia’s passion for helping others knew no bounds as her heart was full of love for others. Her commitment to charitable causes illuminated her path and inspired those around her, young and old alike. Dear Nadia parted from us on August 20, 2023, a few months shy of her 31st birthday leaving behind a darkness where her light shined once before. Having graduated from Washington State University, Nadia split her time building her career, building community, and taking care of her family. Her unwavering love for Tigray could be felt through the many causes she supported, and the passion in which she advocated. A passion shared with our sister Zuher.

To honor our sisters we have a goal to support at least 100 breastfeeding mothers and 100 children get back to school. In order to do this we need your help fundraising. Our goal is to provide at least 100 mothers with 4,000 Birr each to cover food/supplies and at least 100 school children with 2,000 Birr each for materials. With the current exchange transfer rate at 120birr per $1 USD we’ll need about $5,200 USD after fees. We’re also considering transport, lodging, and any additional surprise costs bringing our overall goal to $6,000 USD. If we can minimize transport and admin fees we’ll be splitting the remaining donations between the mothers and school children evenly.

Thank you 💜
