Spiritual Warfare: Enemies

1.)The adversary and 1/3 of fallen angels:

“The huge dragon was thrown out—that ancient serpent, named the Devil, or Satan, that deceived the whole world. He was thrown down to earth, and all his angels with him.“
‭‭Revelation‬ ‭12‬:‭9‬ ‭GNT‬‬

2.) The World, after the fall of mankind (Adam & Eve) the adversary became the god of this world:

”They do not believe, because their minds have been kept in the dark by the evil god of this world. He keeps them from seeing the light shining on them, the light that comes from the Good News about the glory of Christ, who is the exact likeness of God.“
‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭4‬:‭4‬ ‭GNT‬‬

3.) The Flesh:
Lust of the flesh, Lust of the eyes, and Pride of life

”The woman saw (lust of the eyes)how beautiful the tree was and how good its fruit would be to eat, and she thought how wonderful it would be to become wise. (Pride of life)So she took some of the fruit and ate it. Then she gave some to her husband, and he also ate it.“ (lust of flesh, naval/belly)

How to fight?

1.) Resist the devil and he will flee;
Example is Jesus being tempted in wilderness after fasting for 40 days.
(Matthew 4:1-11)

2.) ”What God the Father considers to be pure and genuine religion is this: to take care of orphans and widows in their suffering and to keep oneself from being corrupted by the world.“

3.) Lust of the Flesh

🔑 Struggle with Lust 👉🏾 Fast, deny the flesh and strengthen the spirit
🔑 Pride👉🏾 Deep prayer, submit to the Lord
🔑 Greed 👉🏾 Give generously, God loves a cheerful giver

Whether you believe it or not we are in spiritual warfare. The Word of God says in Ephesians 6:12,

“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”

How do you fight?

The Word of God (Sword)

Hosea 4:6, “ My people perish for lack of knowledge.”

Proverbs 1:7, “To have knowledge you must first have reverence for the Lord.”

Abraham & Covenant

Abraham (Father of many nations) has been given a covenant with the Lord with sign of circumcision. All the males in household undergo this procedure. The instructions and promises are clear, it is through Isaac the covenant is established. The second son between Abraham and Sarah (princess). In addition, the firstborn of Abraham, Ishmael will have numerous descendants. Below are the words the Lord says regarding regarding the two sons…

🔑 Regarding Ishmael:

1.) The angel of the Lord also said to her: “You are now pregnant and you will give birth to a son. You shall name him Ishmael, for the Lord has heard of your misery. He will be a wild donkey of a man; his hand will be against everyone and everyone’s hand against him, and he will live in hostility toward all his brothers.”“
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭16‬:‭11‬-‭12‬ ‭NIV‬‬

2.) ”And as for Ishmael, I have heard you: I will surely bless him; I will make him fruitful and will greatly increase his numbers. He will be the father of twelve rulers, and I will make him into a great nation.“

🔑 Regarding Isaac:

1.) ”Then God said, “Yes, but your wife Sarah will bear you a son, and you will call him Isaac. I will establish my covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his descendants after him.“
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭17‬:‭19‬ ‭NIV‬‬

2.) ”But my covenant I will establish with Isaac, whom Sarah will bear to you by this time next year.”“

That Pertaining to Covenant

🗣️ “I will establish my covenant as an everlasting covenant between me and you and your descendants after you for the generations to come, to be your God and the God of your descendants after you. The whole land of Canaan, where you now reside as a foreigner, I will give as an everlasting possession to you and your descendants after you; and I will be their God.”“

Abrahamic Covenant (Circumcision)

”When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to him and said, “I am God Almighty; walk before me faithfully and be blameless. Then I will make my covenant between me and you and will greatly increase your numbers.” Abram fell facedown, and God said to him, “As for me, this is my covenant with you: You will be the father of many nations. No longer will you be called Abram; your name will be Abraham, for I have made you a father of many nations. I will make you very fruitful; I will make nations of you, and kings will come from you. I will establish my covenant as an everlasting covenant between me and you and your descendants after you for the generations to come, to be your God and the God of your descendants after you.“

”Any uncircumcised male, who has not been circumcised in the flesh, will be cut off from his people; he has broken my covenant.” God also said to Abraham, “As for Sarai your wife, you are no longer to call her Sarai; her name will be Sarah. I will bless her and will surely give you a son by her. I will bless her so that she will be the mother of nations; kings of peoples will come from her.” Abraham fell facedown; he laughed and said to himself, “Will a son be born to a man a hundred years old? Will Sarah bear a child at the age of ninety?” And Abraham said to God, “If only Ishmael might live under your blessing!” Then God said, “Yes, but your wife Sarah will bear you a son, and you will call him Isaac. I will establish my covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his descendants after him. And as for Ishmael, I have heard you: I will surely bless him; I will make him fruitful and will greatly increase his numbers. Hagar and Angel of the Lord

“The angel of the Lord found Hagar near a spring in the desert; it was the spring that is beside the road to Shur. And he said, “Hagar, slave of Sarai, where have you come from, and where are you going?” “I’m running away from my mistress Sarai,” she answered. Then the angel of the Lord told her, “Go back to your mistress and submit to her.” The angel added, “I will increase your descendants so much that they will be too numerous to count.” The angel of the Lord also said to her: “You are now pregnant and you will give birth to a son. You shall name him Ishmael, for the Lord has heard of your misery. He will be a wild donkey of a man; his hand will be against everyone and everyone’s hand against him, and he will live in hostility toward all his brothers.”“

🔑 After fleeing from Sarai from her cruel treatment resulting from her proud demeanor of pregnancy she instructed to return by the angel of the Lord. Let’s keep in mind Ishmael who is yet to be born is the firstborn son of Abram…

🔑 The angel says that he will have numerous descendants but he will be like a wild donkey of a man whose hand is against everyone and everyone’s hand against him, living hostile toward his brothers.

Sarai and Hagar (Ishmael)

From previous posts we know she had Abrams child and the Egyptian servant (“Abram had in*******se with Hagar, and she became pregnant. When she found out that she was pregnant, she became proud and despised Sarai.—Gen. 16:4)

She became proud ( a trait that originally began with Lucifer) and looked upon her mistress with contempt/despised her. This results in 👇🏾

”Then Sarai said to Abram, “You are responsible for the wrong I am suffering. I put my slave in your arms, and now that she knows she is pregnant, she despises me. May the Lord judge between you and me.” “Your slave is in your hands,” Abram said. “Do with her whatever you think best.” Then Sarai mistreated Hagar; so she fled from her.“

Hmm 🤔 notice another parallel?

Hagar and Ishmael pt. 3

With the previous post we are informed it has been revealed by the Lord Abram will have a son of his own and inherit many lands! In Genesis 16 this is what occurs…

”And Sarai said to Abram, “Behold now, the Lord has prevented me from bearing children. Go in to my servant; it may be that I shall obtain children by her.” And Abram listened to the voice of Sarai.“ ”So, after Abram had lived ten years in the land of Canaan, Sarai, Abram’s wife, took Hagar the Egyptian, her servant, and gave her to Abram her husband as a wife. And he went in to Hagar, and she conceived. And when she saw that she had conceived, she looked with contempt on her mistress.“
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭16‬:‭3‬-‭4‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Did you see a bit of a parallel?

“And Abram listened to the voice of Sarai.”

Very similar to this 👇🏾

”And to Adam he said, “Because you have listened to the voice of your wife and have eaten of the tree of which I commanded you, ‘You shall not eat of it,’ cursed is the ground because of you; in pain you shall eat of it all the days of your life; thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you; and you shall eat the plants of the field. By the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you shall return.”“

The Egyptian servant (mistress) has conceived for Abram per advice from Sarai, but shouldn’t they have consulted the Lord regarding the offspring He promised…

Hagar and Ishmael pt. 2

Let’s examine closely you may notice a parallel…

In Genesis 15 the Lord speaks to Abram in a vision:

”After these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision: “Fear not, Abram, I am your shield; your reward shall be very great.” But Abram said, “O Lord God, what will you give me, for I continue childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?” And Abram said, “Behold, you have given me no offspring, and a member of my household will be my heir.” And behold, the word of the Lord came to him: “This man shall not be your heir; your very own son shall be your heir.”“
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭15‬:‭1‬-‭4‬ ‭ESV‬‬

The Lord told Abram his own son shall be his heir after he said he had no offspring…in addition the Lord promised his offspring the lands mentioned in this verse below

Hagar & Ishmael

”Abram's wife Sarai had not borne him any children. But she had an Egyptian slave woman named Hagar, and so she said to Abram, “The Lord has kept me from having children. Why don't you sleep with my slave? Perhaps she can have a child for me.” Abram agreed with what Sarai said. So she gave Hagar to him to be his concubine. (This happened after Abram had lived in Canaan for ten years.) Abram had in*******se with Hagar, and she became pregnant. When she found out that she was pregnant, she became proud and despised Sarai.“
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭16‬:‭1‬-‭4‬ ‭GNT‬‬

Prior to Abrams call he and his family lived in Ur (Babylonian region) where Ishtar were the goddess of fertility. Worshipping that deity would be idolatry which would be transgressing God. Could prior beliefs of this polytheistic nation and following the Babylonian beliefs kept Sarai from having children? Regardless, following the true God (Yahweh) whom made covenant with Abram she will be promised a son in old age ridding her of barrenness.

Gods Covenant with Abram

🔑 “After this, Abram had a vision and heard the Lord say to him, “Do not be afraid, Abram. I will shield you from danger and give you a great reward.”“
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭15‬:‭1‬ ‭GNT‬‬

🔑 “Then and there the Lord made a covenant with Abram. He said, “I promise to give your descendants all this land from the border of Egypt to the Euphrates River,“
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭15‬:‭18‬ ‭GNT‬‬

🔑 “The Lord took him outside and said, “Look at the sky and try to count the stars; you will have as many descendants as that.” Abram put his trust in the Lord, and because of this the Lord was pleased with him and accepted him. Then the Lord said to him, “I am the Lord, who led you out of Ur in Babylonia, to give you this land as your own.”“
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭15‬:‭5‬-‭7‬ ‭GNT‬‬

🔑 “The Lord said to him, “Your descendants will be strangers in a foreign land; they will be slaves there and will be treated cruelly for four hundred years. But I will punish the nation that enslaves them, and when they leave that foreign land, they will take great wealth with them.“
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭15‬:‭13‬-‭14‬ ‭GNT‬‬

Here we see promises Abram receives and insight of the future. The last verse the Lord foretells that Abrams descendants will be slaves for 400 years…this is the time when the Hebrews will be in Egypt. It is here we see God is indeed and the Alpha and Omega omniscient and all-knowing in addition to having the plans to set them free, give them great wealth, and punish the nation that enslaved them.

Abram’s Response to Bera

”Abram answered, “I solemnly swear before the Lord, the Most High God, Maker of heaven and earth, that I will not keep anything of yours, not even a thread or a sandal strap. Then you can never say, ‘I am the one who made Abram rich.’ I will take nothing for myself. I will accept only what my men have used. But let my allies, Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre, take their share.”“
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭14‬:‭22‬-‭24‬ ‭GNT‬‬

The Lord Appears to Abram in a Vision

”After this, Abram had a vision and heard the Lord say to him, “Do not be afraid, Abram. I will shield you from danger and give you a great reward.”“
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭15‬:‭1‬ ‭GNT‬‬

It would appear that Abram made the correct choice in the matter denying the offer of Bera.

The king of S***m (Bera) part 2

From previous post we learned that the king of S***m (Bera) asked Abram for the people in exchange for him taking all the goods. Why would he be so interests in people rather than the goods? It is vastly similar to the temptation of that happened to Jesus while he were in the wilderness.

”Then the Devil took Jesus to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in all their greatness. “All this I will give you,” the Devil said, “if you kneel down and worship me.” Then Jesus answered, “Go away, Satan! The scripture says, ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve only him!’”“
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭4‬:‭8‬-‭10‬ ‭GNT‬‬

The enemy is interested in souls of men and will wager for material possessions. For example, the pride of of life, the lust of the flesh, and lust of the eyes.

Remember the verse;

”And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul?“
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭16‬:‭26‬ ‭NLT‬‬

So perhaps while Melchizedek were possibly a
pre incarnation of Christ it could be that Bera were a shadow of the devil and this were a test for Abram. After all the king of Gomorrah Birsha means son of wickedness… these two cities were destroyed by God for its wickedness.

The king of s***m (Bera)

”Now the Valley of Siddim was full of tar pits, and when the kings of S***m and Gomorrah fled, some of the men fell into them and the rest fled to the hills. The four kings seized all the goods of S***m and Gomorrah and all their food; then they went away.“
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭14‬:‭10‬-‭11‬ ‭NIV‬‬

This king retreated and were at loss but returned to Abram after his victory 👇🏾

”After Abram returned from defeating Kedorlaomer and the kings allied with him, the king of S***m came out to meet him in the Valley of Shaveh (that is, the King’s Valley). The king of S***m said to Abram, “Give me the people and keep the goods for yourself.”
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭14‬:‭17‬, ‭21‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Why would he ask only for the people and not the goods? 🤔 Let’s think on this…

S***m & Gomorrah were the cities that were destroyed in Genesis chapter 19

Bera (king of S***m) means gift
Birsha (king of Gomorrah) means son of wickedness

Who is Melchizedek? Part 2

From the last post we see that Melchizedek is a priest and a king of Salem (peace). In the tribes of Israel which are 12 the Levites (tribe of Levi) during Moses time, his brother Aaron and sons were ordained as the priesthood. The kings descended from the tribe of Judah (David, Solomon) and also brings forth the Messiah. Melchizedek comes before the Levitical laws and order. In addition, Hebrews clearly says,

”No one chooses for himself the honor of being a high priest. It is only by God's call that a man is made a high priest—just as Aaron was. In the same way, Christ did not take upon himself the honor of being a high priest. Instead, God said to him, “You are my Son; today I have become your Father.” He also said in another place, “You will be a priest forever, in the priestly order of Melchizedek.”“
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭5‬:‭4‬-‭6‬ ‭GNT‬‬

It is could be that Melchizedek is an incarnation of Christ in the Old Testament. Especially since this verse says;

Who is Melchizedek?

According to the Word Melchizedek is the king of Salem (meaning peace) and also refers to the holy city Jerusalem.

He is also the priest of the Most High whom blesses Abram and receives a tenth of what Abram owns. (The first of what would become tithes 10%).

”This Melchizedek was king of Salem and a priest of the Most High God. As Abraham was coming back from the battle in which he defeated the four kings, Melchizedek met him and blessed him, and Abraham gave him one tenth of all he had taken. (The first meaning of Melchizedek's name is “King of Righteousness”; and because he was king of Salem, his name also means “King of Peace.”) There is no record of Melchizedek's father or mother or of any of his ancestors; no record of his birth or of his death. He is like the Son of God; he remains a priest forever.“

Could Melchizedek have been a manifestation of the Son of God who later would come as Jesus who would die for our sins?

Blessed by Melchizedek

”When Abram came back from his victory over Chedorlaomer and the other kings, the king of S***m went out to meet him in Shaveh Valley (also called King's Valley). And Melchizedek, who was king of Salem and also a priest of the Most High God, brought bread and wine to Abram, blessed him, and said, “May the Most High God, who made heaven and earth, bless Abram! May the Most High God, who gave you victory over your enemies, be praised!” And Abram gave Melchizedek a tenth of all the loot he had recovered.“
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭14‬:‭17‬-‭20‬ ‭GNT‬‬

Abram is victorious and blessed by a king and priest who wasn’t mentioned previously during the wars of the kings. Hmm, let’s dig deeper in the Word 📖

Abram takes 318 trained men and pursues the four kings that defeated 5 kings that opposed them…

“There he divided his men into groups, attacked the enemy by night, and defeated them. He chased them as far as Hobah, north of Damascus, and got back all the loot that had been taken. He also brought back his nephew Lot and his possessions, together with the women and the other prisoners.”
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭14‬:‭15‬-‭16‬ ‭GNT‬‬

🤯🤯🤯

Abram and only 318 men have defeats four kings and retrieved the stolen possessions in addition to women, prisoners and his nephew Lot!

“In view of all this, what can we say? If God is for us, who can be against us?”
