Mr Zulu was taken into custody at Maina Soko Military Hospital, where Petauke Member of Parliament, Emmanuel Jay Banda, is currently admitted and receiving treatment following his alleged abduction.

Although details of the apprehension are scant, Home Affairs Minister Jack Mwiimbu confirmed that Mr Zulu has been detained.

He criticized Mr Zuluโ€™s behavior as irresponsible and unbecoming.

โ€œIt is irresponsible for Munir Zulu to behave the way he did. There are laws in this country, and as a leader, he should abide by them instead of constantly finding himself on the wrong side of the law. His behavior is unbecoming. This country is home to many people, and any Zambian is free to reside in any part of the country. I appeal to Zambians not to listen to such leaders,โ€ Mr Mwiimbu said.

The Minister further urged Zambians to remain peaceful and not be swayed by inflammatory statements.

Mr Mwiimbu said statements promoting division and hate speech, particularly those targeting specific tribes or regions, are unacceptable.

During a press briefing yesterday, Mr Zulu allegedly made a divisive statement targeting a certain tribe, which has been widely condemned on social media.

LUNGU DENIES OWNING PROPERTIES IN ESWATINI

By Darius Choonya

Former Republican President Edgar Lungu has denied owning properties in the Kingdom of Eswatini.

In a statement posted on his page, Mr. Lungu says he has read a report from the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) titled: โ€œSwazi Secrets alleging that he owns a luxurious property in Eswatini."

Mr. Lungu, however, says during his official visit to Eswatini in 2018 as then president, the King - His Majesty Mswati III - during exchange of gifts, offered him a plot on which he proposed he could build a house, but he chose not to take it up particularly after the hullabaloo in Zambia, alleging that the gift was not declared.

Mr. Lungu says he has been compelled to respond to the allegations following a challenge by Housing and Infrastructure Minister, Charles Milupi, asking him to explain the source of the money for his investment or properties in Eswatini.

THE Energy Regulation Board (ERB) has announced a downward adjustment in the prices of petrol, diesel, and jet A-I, bringing relief to consumers.

Effective midnight, petrol will be priced at K31.12 per litre, diesel at K28.78 per litre, and jet A-I at K28.23 per litre.

However, the price of kerosene will remain unchanged at K20.44 per litre.

The reduction in the prices have been attributed to the appreciation of the Kwacha which outweighed the increase in international oil prices therefore warranting a reduction in the domestic wholesale and pump prices of petroleum products.

ERB Board chairperson Reynolds Bowa said the price of kerosene has been maintained, adding that the decision on kerosene pricing will be reviewed consistent with the national supply and demand situation.

In a statement, Mr Bowa said over the review period, the Kwacha significantly appreciated against the United States Dollar.

โ€œOn average the exchange rate appreciated 14.4 percent. The appreciation was mainly attributed to interest rate hike by the Bank of Zambia (BoZ) and the directive that commercial banks hold back more funds in reserve. Furthermore, BoZ made available additional United States Dollars to the market,โ€ he said.

Mr Bowa said the prices will come into effect at midnight and shall remain in effect until revised by the ERB.

He however said during the month of February the prices of oil on the international market increased.

Mr Bowa said the increase was mainly attributed to supply disruptions arising from geopolitical tensions in the Middle East which led to tightened supply of the commodity.

GOVERNMENT DELEGATION INCLUDING WESTERN MPs HEADS TO MONGU TO MEET THE BRE

As the standoff continues between the Barotseland Royal Establishment (BRE) and the Government, the UPND is making frantic efforts to patch up a strained relationship by sending Members of Parliament and other senior Government officials who hail from Western Province to go and meet the BRE.

Sources in Mongu say, among the high profile figures being dispatched today on this Western "peace" mission includes Speaker of the National Assembly, Nelly Mutti.

Meanwhile, sources have told KBN TV that the BRE has welcomed the resignation of Mr. Clement Wanyae Sinyinda, former Prime Minister of Barotseland from the Teaching Service Commission. A "heroes" welcome has been planned for him on arrival in Mongu today, sources close to BRE have revealed.

Mr. Sinyinda announced that he had resigned saying he had expected President Hakainde Hichilema to have apologized to the Litunga, the Kuta and the People of Western Province when he said there was no country called Barotseland recently.

In a related development on Monday, a Medical Stores truck bashed the entrance to the Limulunga Palace of King Lubosi. The accident has attracted different sensitive interpretations within the Province, prompting the Provincial Permanent Secretary promising to bear the cost of repairing the entrance to the Palace.

However, the BRE has instructed the provincial administration to acknowledge the damage in writing and commit that Government would bear the cost of repairs.

Chipolopolo head coach Avram Grant has opened up about his dissatisfaction with the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ)โ€™s travel and training arrangements in the build-up to the 2023 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

Grant led the Chipolopolo to their first AFCON after a nine year absence with the nationโ€™s road at the tournament ending at the first hurdle after finishing third in Group F.

The experienced 68-year old Israeli gaffer has since attributed the Chipolopoloโ€™s early exit from the AFCON partly to the lackluster traveling arrangements by FAZ.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Israeli media outlet ONE, the former Chelsea boss praised his technical staff for having ensured to attain the required fitness for the players even with the poor pre-tournament arrangements made by FAZ.

โ€œ[The arrangements by FAZ] hurt us very sharply. We only made good preparations because I have Jamie Lawrence in the team, a fitness trainer who is an expert in these things and we trained the playersโ€ Grant said.

โ€œThey put us through a 30-hour flight with 9-hour connections. One flight had 4 stops in the middle and as a result, we lost 11 training units and another 2 training games.โ€

Grant said he was making no excuses for his teamโ€™s failure at the tournament but insisted that the Chipolopolo would have had a chance to perform better from the start under good traveling arrangements.

โ€œIn the second-half against Morocco we surpassed them in terms of physical fitness, it should have been like that from the first game but we lacked trainingโ€ he said.
