We're showing a different kind of love this Valentine's day! 💖💖

Today, let us celebrate not just our love for our special someone but our fate, as well. We, at the Brown Bags TV are proud to launch this heart-felt novena!

Catholics often seek help from two saints, mother Mary and saint Jude Thaddaeus. So, with the help of technology, we created these bite-size prayers that will soothe your ears and your souls. This is also perfect for people who are always on-the-go, stuck on traffic or have a personal time wherever they are.

So pause, turn your hedphones on and pray. 🙏

Health is wealth! ⚕️ ⚕️

Due to various reasons, not all of us has the means to be totally invested with our bodies or our health. ☹️ That fact may be hard to swallow, but it doesn't make it less true. While I cannot do much to help everyone who is asking for assistance, I'm hoping to help this woman and her family.

Can you please, please help them? Even droplets of rain can eventually overflow a river. 💧? 💧? We and the family are humbly asking for your support. Anything and everything will help a lot.

I'm sharing her story here and I pray that you can find it in your hearts to help them in whatever way you can. Everything counts. And in behalf of the family, we in the Brown-Bags TV thank you so, so much! 💕

Hello! 😊

As you may be aware of, our mother, (Cresencia "Ching" Bisda), underwent mastectomy last August, and one of her breasts has been removed as our best option at that time to lessen the risks.

We are happy to share that she had a very successful surgery, thus, the life-threatening factor to her health has been greatly eliminated. Based on her lab test results this week, she is doing very well, but there are three nodes that were assessed as positive, and these nodes will be addressed by chemotherapy to completely eliminate them from her body and prevent them for further spreading.

To decrease the chance of spreading, our family has been advised by the doctor to start the therapy at the soonest possible time as the need is really urgent, and without thinking twice, we are heading to that direction. We are currently pulling in our personal resources to raise US$7,000.00 to cover eight (8) chemo sessions and all the needed laboratory tests that will be done pre, post and in between the therapies. These set of lab tests are equally expensive, and indeed adds up more to our challenges financially on top of the expenses for the said treatment.

We have spent more than ₱250,000.00 to cover her Mastectomy including her recent preparatory lab tests before embarking into chemotherapy, and our resources have started to deplete due to the huge amount that the situation requires. With the recent developments on her case, we are almost winning the battle for cancer as the prescribed chemotherapy can cease these nodes to multiply rapidly. We are almost there, please help us get to the finish line, take the victory and win this war.

May we humbly seek for a little assistance? We are knocking to your merciful hearts with the hopes that we can raise the needed funds to secure the entirety of the treatment including all the required lab tests that goes with it, any amount that your heart desires is greatly appreciated. ❤️🙏

We just created a funding campaign for our mother at Go Fund Me. We are hoping that you can support our cause. To know more about the campaign and how to donate, kindly click this link:

We are forever thankful and grateful to you for sharing a piece of you in our journey. ❤️🙏

Thank you also for praying with us and for our mother's complete healing. 🙏 🙏🙏

God bless you, your family and life endeavors.

What is public ridicule? 🤔

Why is it harmful?

Everyone just wants to be happy and have fun, right?

Like I said, “It’s nice to laugh with someone, but it is not nice to laugh at someone. It is not good to make someone a laughing matter.” ☹️ ☹️

So join us in this podcast where we talk about public ridicule, vilification and Republic Act 9442.

👇 We should know that even laughing has boundaries, because not all things can be laughed at.

Also, I would like to give special shout outs to the following individuals who generously shared their time and passion in fighting for human rights and respect for one’s dignity.

Atty. Marianne Carmel Agunoy from Ateneo Human Rights Center

Dr. Bernardo Aido Sepeda , Dean from De La Salle Araneda University

Teacher Jessie De Lara , Member of Pambansang Samahan ng mga G**o sa Intelektwalisasyon ng Filipino

VIFAL , fellow vlogger and collaborator in advocating against public ridicule

And to all the volunteers and advocates of the Alliance of Advocates Against Public Ridicule or A3PR, who worked tirelessly in front and behind the spotlight, to ensure that misinformation and wrong representations of people living with disabilities are corrected and reformed.

📣 A big thank you to CreatiVoices Productions, VG8 Radio and Gonzales for guesting me in their show!

Its titled, Voice of PWD - Power, Wisdom and Dynamism. We talked about the different talents and advocacies of persons with disabilities.

I really appreciate the chance to share my personal story and to educate people at the same time. Fighting for the rights and inclusion of persons with disabilities is hard. But through these shows, spreading the word can be a piece of cake.

It seems like I'm saying thank you on most of my post these days. But what else can I say? My words comes from my heart when I say them.

"Thank you so much!"

Call to Attention for Companies

The Filipino blind community and the disability community would like to call the attention the following companies for sponsoring the channel Unexpected But Planned. The channel has posted numerous videos that mock and ridicule the blind and other disabled Filipinos. These violate Republic Act 9442 which protects disabled people from public ridicule and vilification.

1. Wonder Place Ph
https://www.facebook.com/wonderplaceph/

2. Café in the Sky - Rizal
https://www.facebook.com/cafeintheskyrizal/

3. Diamond Game

4. Kirin Games

5. Trisha & Bodin Enterprises
https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100063550492110

We ask that these companies review their business practices as to not violate Philippine legislation. Also, we strongly urge companies to be more mindful, responsible, and ethical in choosing the social media personalities they support. We are certain that these companies would not want to be associated with groups and individuals who break the law and make money by marginalizing the Filipino blind and disability community as a whole.

“Freedom of expression”

A nice phrase, isn’t it? But let me ask you, can we still call it that when said expressions are offensive? Yes, people can defend themselves by saying they’re just making a joke and didn’t mean any harm. But I’m drawing the line if you’re making a content to mislead/made fun of/take advantage of someone.

With that said, never make a content about disability or about persons who are blind when the intention is simply mocking. There is no humor in mockery. In fact, don’t make a content about anything you don’t know about. We have freedom of expression yes, but we must be responsible for whatever comes out of our mouths.

This vlogger is an example of someone doing a public ridicule towards persons living with visual disabilities. I strongly condemn their published vlog, and I want you to know that they were very wrong using blind people as subject of mockery. If some people will say that we are being overly sensitive, and they don’t mean anything about it, well everyone loves to laugh but no one likes to be laughed at.

People with disabilities are not objects of entertainment. We are people with rights and this recent content is highly offensive. The disability sector is slowly but surely making progress toward inclusion and it is truly disappointing that there are still who think that somehow, they can pull a stunt like this without consequence.

This is a social issue that more people should pay attention to. I condemn this vlogger and the people who find enjoyment with these kinds of content. Social responsibility is a thing people, and all of us should own it.

It pains me to share such content but here's the link about the vlogger I'm talking about.

Hi folks. I am very happy and appreciative that I was featured in an article at Manila Bulletin last August 26, 2022! 😃

I got a chance to highlight the issues and other concerns that the disability sector face when it comes to inclusive employment. I also emphasized the landscape of inclusive employment in the Philippines. Though the progress seemed gradual, I'd say it's better than having nothing at all.

The problem on inclusion is not neither persons with disabilities, nor the employers, but the system. For me, it is largely a systemic issue where employers and people living with disabilities co-exist together.

That is why my advocacy is always leaning towards systemic change and organizational development. Because this is where everyone works together, fix things with each other, share similar work goals and succeed! Sadly though, there are times that they also fail together.

I was told that my feature story was "inspiring", thanks so much for that, and I sincerely appreciate it! But, to be honest, I feel some discomfort being seen as "inspirational" as I do not really see or consider myself as one. 😬

It might be lengthy to explain what is inspiration p**n, so, I put two references in the comment section of this post so you would have an idea what is it all about and why persons with disabilities, perhaps not all, but most have discomfort being labeled as inspirational, or regarding our life story as inspirational.

Just to be clear, no hard feelings Johannes Chua for the last sentence on your article about me! 🤗 🤗

I'm sure that not many people are familiar yet with "Inspi-Porn" concept. But I'd rather hear the readers say the story was a mind opener than inspiring. The issues we face are really terrible, and it really needs immediate action in policy-making, inclusive program development, and organizational sincerity to change their ways of doing things.

I hope the article can awaken the spirit of being an "action man" in each one of you, and join us in pursuing equality and inclusion by being an action-driven social reformists than being inspired for a day, then the inspiration expires away.
