The Via Appia Antica in Rome is the first ancient Roman road. It was built to support the troops fighting in the South, to get food, equipment, and supplies to them more expeditiously. This ancient road also attracted merchants and attracted affluent citizens to build villas outside of the city walls creating the first Roman suburbs. For more about this ancient road, watch the latest video on my travel vlog https://youtu.be/FdgJ5Mngo4I?si=U_Ni6hW6TorkXcSW

The Pantheon is one of the best-preserved monuments of Ancient Rome. It was built by Marcus Agrippa, a military commander and close friend of Emperor Augustus, in 25 BC. Although it since burned down, it was restored by AD 126. Some believe it was built to worship Julius Cæsar as a god. Its dome is the largest ever built of unreinforced concrete. It became a Roman Catholic church in the 4th Century and contains the tombs of the famous 16th Century artist Raphael and of Vittorio Emanuel II, the first king of Italy. The final photo is an Egyptian obelisk in an elephant, which is a sculpture made by Bernini and located in close proximity to the Pantheon. For more about the Pantheon and the nearby Church of Santa Maria Sopra Minerva, watch my video https://youtu.be/woOdXXGFuEs?si=jic1AD-bgkVm1met.

The Colosseum was completed in AD 80 under the reign of Emperor Titus to be a sporting arena and entertainment venue. The popular sports that people came to see were gladiators fighting wild animals, criminals (including Christians), and each other. For the first 100 days after opening, entry was free and sporting events ran 24/7. Now the Colosseum Archeological Park includes the Colosseum, Arch of Constantine, Palatine Hill (birthplace of Rome), and the Roman Forum (which was “downtown” Rome 2,000+ years ago). The Forum was the center of government, economy, society, and worship. For more details and images of this historic site, see me video https://youtu.be/bn50J5cFoO4?si=am9ZeUcSQmnOR_0i

When in Rome, if you have the time, it's worth spending a few hours walking around inside the Vatican Museums. It started as a private collection belonging to the pope of a bygone era and, after his passing, became a public museum of art, ancient artifacts, and even Vatican memorabilia. How long you spend depends on your interests. It's not just one museum, but several - each with their own theme. Then you take a walk through the Papal Apartments to the Sistine Chapel and you can set your eyes on another of Michelangelo's masterpieces - the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.

Embark on a captivating journey through the Vatican Museum with my exclusive video tour. Discover the hidden gems and timeless wonders nestled within this es...

This is the world famous Travi Fountain in Rome. Just about any time of the day, you can find a massive crowd gathered around it. There is a legend that if you make a wish as you throw a coin in, your wish will come true. In 2022, the city removed €1.4 million in coins from the fountain. Now, the city is working on plans to implement a ticket system for seeing the fountain. This will require all visitors to make an advanced on-line reservation for a specific time slot, along with a free of €1-2 per ticket. Residents of Rome will be able to get tickets for free.
