A little about Robyn, who is running to be the programming board member for GenJ.
Hi, Gen-Jers. I'm running to be your programming person for the next year. A little about me: I've been an SPJ member for the past 10 years and have worked in many newsrooms, both as an intern and staff writer. I'd like to help make the Gen J community thrive because I believe it will help the next generation of journalists -- and of SPJ -- be successful.
I hope we can offer engaging programming at both regional and the national conferences and help spread Gen J's message as well as close the gap between college and professional journalists. Early-career journalists are dealing with unique struggles and I hope Gen J can be there to support them.
In addition to having a presence at conferences, we can provide programming throughout the year virtually through Twitter chats, Facebook live, peer-editing groups and mentoring.
I'm also a reporter at The Virginian-Pilot in Norfolk, Va. and the SPJ Virginia Pro Chapter president.
"As a soon-to-be graduate, a former two-term editor-in-chief and someone who’s been actively involved with SPJ for four years now, my one piece of advice I’d like to give to other Gen J-ers is to get weird now."

To illustrate the disparity in political news on Facebook, The Wall Street Journal created "Blue Feed, Red Feed."
When it comes to political news, there's not just one Facebook, but dozens. Facebook's News Feed works best when it shows users things they're most likely to want to see and engage with. That's great for baby pictures, but it's potentially dangerous for news: it's hard to keep an open mind about…
