HLP E29 is now available for streaming!

In this episode, Will () and Chris (.lee) dive into arguably the most influential horror film--and films, in general--of all-time--Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho! This one sits at #22 in Will's T25 and is a T5 movie for Chris, as well! One episode isn't enough time to cover a masterpiece, so we're going to do it in two parts!

Join Will and Chris in the Horror Lab as they discuss the influence of--and controversy about--Psycho, dissect possible movie themes, explore the connection between Psycho and other horror movies, and tip their cap to the one-and-only Alfred Hitchcock!

In this episode, Will () and Chris (.lee) explore a terrific and disturbing horror movie--Misery! This is the first Stephen King film adaptation we've reviewed and it's arguably the best one. Oh, and Kathy Bates absolutely crushes her role as sociopathic "caregiver", Annie Wilkes! This one sits at #9 in Will's T25, and deservedly so!

Join Will and Chris in the Horror Lab as they discuss possible movie themes, dissect the stellar (and Oscar-winning) performance of Kathy Bates, and cringe as they talk about the famous "hobbling" scene!

In this episode, Will () and Chris (.lee) explore a disturbing and terrifying film--Saint Maud! A truly elevated horror experience, Rose Glass' directorial debut was a tense and tragic journey into the depths of despair and madness. This one sits at #7 in Will's T25, and could go higher!

Join Will and Chris in the Horror Lab as they dissect the symbolism and themes, consider the relationship between trauma and religious fanaticism, and discuss an explosive ending!

HLP E26 is now available to listen!

In this episode, Will () and Chris (.lee) explore a wicked smart, scathing, and truly scary movie--Get Out! Jordan Peele's directorial debut was a banger, and is easily one of the sharpest horror movies in recent memory!

Join Will and Chris in the Horror Lab as they dissect primary themes, consider the effects of racism, appropriation, tokenism, and more. Though Get Out isn't a traditional horror movie, it's a super effective scary movie--with human monsters as the villains!

In this episode, Will () and Chris (.lee) explore a terrific and DEEP horror movie--The Babadook! This is one of Chris' favorite horror movies, and even though it isn't (yet), it belongs in Will's T25 list. In a lot of ways, The Babadook embodies the premise of The Horror Lab--the best horror movies make us feel and explore uncomfortable themes, ideas, situations.

Join Will and Chris in the Horror Lab as they explore primary and secondary themes, the larger cultural impact of the film, and discuss the importance of representation in film.

HLP E23 is now available to listen!

In this episode, Will () and Chris (.lee) explore one of the best horror movies of the past 15 years--The Conjuring--which currently sits at #11 in Will's T25 list! Possession movies are a dime-a-dozen--and most fall way short of the hype; but not this one! Rather than using tropes in the same, worn-out way, The Conjuring is a fresh take on a familiar concept.

Join Will and Chris in the Horror Lab as they explore a unique approach, consider the real-life vs. fiction aspect of the film, and dissect a pretty terrific addition to the Haunted House/Possession subgenre!

That makes two HLP episodes this week!

In this episode, Will and Chris--along with special guests Sam and Matt--take a DEEP DIVE into the Ultimate Movie Creature, Gojira. This one may not come to mind, but make no mistake, Gojira is indeed a horror movie. More than that, the historical message of Gojira is as tragic as it is important.

Join Will, Chris, Sam, and Matt as they dissect the historic and cultural impact, discuss the lore and mythology surrounding the Godzilla universe, and explore the terrifying--if not tragic--protagonist, Gojira!

HLP E21 is now available for streaming!

In this episode, Will () and Chris(.lee) explore a unique, if not beautiful, vampire movie--Let the Right One In. Rather than your typical gorefest with a side of romance, this one focuses on the friendship (and potential romance) between Oskar and Eli--the latter of which is a hundreds-year old vampire.

Join Will and Chris as they discuss themes, explore the larger cultural issues within the movie, and dissect the relationship between the protagonists. Oh, and the last 5 minutes of Let the Right One In is absolutely stunning!
