👀46 participants from 21 countries and 9 international experts joined us in February 2024 at Bled, Slovenia, to comprehensively understand the critical intersection between government affairs and digital engagement. Over 4 billion individuals, representing half the planet's population, did and will exercise their right to vote this year📥. Hence, the power of strategic (digital) communication holds and will hold unprecedented significance for democracy💪.

U.S. Department of State U.S. Embassy Ljubljana
💡Yesterday, we held our 5th virtual session. This time on #threads with Matthias Lüfkens from DigiTips.
This relatively new text-based app, launched in 2023 by Meta to rival X, is simultaneously very similar and very different from X☯️. While most features are alike, the atmosphere is not. Threads is much friendlier and prides itself on meaningful and moderated discussion🫂, while X is all about free speech with minimal moderation🗣.
Since Threads is still quite a niche app, we can see more playful content from unexpected users (international organisations, governments, etc.). Threads will likely not replace X, but investing your time and efforts in this app is still valuable. Are you asking why👀? Have a look at yesterday's afternoon session⬇️.

All You Need to Know About Threads with Matthias Lüfkens
The European Digital Diplomacy Exchange (EDDE) invites you to join us virtually on Thursday, March 21 from 16:00 – 17:00 CET for the virtual lecture All You Need to Know About Threads with Matthias Lüfkens.
X has become the most popular and effective social media platform for political figures, governments, and international organisations in recent years🏆. However, the chaotic situation at X since Elon Musk took over caused a significant drop in the number of users, creating space for a new platform💡. Meta took the opportunity and created Threads, a new text-based app to rival X.
Threads, like every platform, has its perks and flaws. We will dedicate our next virtual session to learn about it👀. Our guest will be social media savvy and an author of Twiplomacy Study, Matthias Lüfkens, founder and CEO of DigiTips, with over 35 years of experience in communication working with big international organisations like WHO, UNICEF, WWF and WEF.

New Trends in Digital Diplomacy: TikTok-ification of Digital Diplomacy with Andreas Sandre
TikTok isn't just a place for the light-hearted stuff, nor is it solely viral dance crazes, day-to-day routines and lip-syncing videos. Increasingly, it's where people worldwide – primarily younger generations, say they're getting news. Many organisations, including the UN and the WHO, have followed and acted on that trend. Ultimately, the most important is that our public is informed, not through which channel or platform they get information🤓.
Andreas Sandre, the digital communication expert and author, delved into the phenomenon of TikTok-ification of digital diplomacy, shedding light on its role, case studies, challenges, and future trends.
