When Deep7 launched in 1999, we did so with a small handful of downloadable (all but unheard of at the time) "beer & pretzels" roleplaying games based on television and film genres. Known as 1PGs, because the basic rules fit on the character sheet, these games were inexpensive and easy to learn.

The first two editions came within the 5 years, with the v3 line overhaul coming in 2004, under the guiding hand of James Stubbs. But it's been 20 years since that last update, so with the 1PG line and Deep7 Press both turning 25 this year, we're doing a little 4th edition overhaul. Revised and updated system, more content, same low price point.

Wow! Deep7 Press is 25 years old!

We started out in April of 1999 as Deep7 LLC, doing business in our West Seattle home, publishing the downloadable 1PG line (back before electronic game content had been embraced, and we had to have custom code written for our website to sell virtual products).

Along came Santa's Soldiers 1st Edition, then Arrowflight 1st Edition, then Mean Streets, Bloode Island XPG, and the Red Dwarf line (which put us on the map). More editions, a few administrative changes, the death of a founding partner, some 60+ titles, and the ever-changing TTRPG landscape have all left their indelible mark on the company. But our readers, players, and fans have kept us chugging along (cheers to both of you)! 😋

Saturday night Arrowflight! Had a blast!

It was great to have original playtesters Hans H. Piwenitzky II and Ron Dugdale at the table, as well as veteran players Malcolm Collie, Trish Heinrich and game master Dan Heinrich. We solved a magic puzzle, rescued the kidnapped faerie children, and slew the commander of the pirate fortress. Huzzah!

I guess it's time to do a full reveal of the new cover. ❤️

Last looks done, print files will be wrangled over the next week, and we hope to have it available in early November (depending on the how long the proofing process takes). A bit later than we were hoping to coincide with the game's 20th anniversary in 2022, but worth the wait!

Arrowflight Third Edition is on the horizon, with new player Kinds like Fauns, Marrish, Ghed, Urzaar, and Ratkin (as well as familiar player species from editions past)! In addition, there are new occupation templates such as the Advocate, Chirurgeon, Mummer, Troubador, and Witchsmeller (among others)!

Our hearts and sympathies go out to the family and friends of Jonathan M. Thompson, who died yesterday at the age of 51. He was a talented writer, historian and game designer, whose publishing company Battlefield Press International was a pillar of the indie side of the TTRPG industry. Battlefield Press was set to publish a licensed Airship Daedalus RPG under various systems. More importantly, he'd been a friend and colleague for over 20 years.
